What is everyone’s opinion on changing the oil every 5K, but only doing the filter every 10k?

The reason I’m asking is because I have the 3 year free service, but plan on changing the oil myself—I vacuum it from the dipstick tube—every 5K.

So, is it ok to do the filter every 10K?

Sure! The original filter is stable. In Germany, the Oil interval is up to 30.000km (18641 miles). Doing the same with my M850.

OOO nice another oil thread!!! Why not just do both at 5k??? Oil and filters are cheap engines are not.

Yes. It's at the front, right side of the engine.

I will do a 1200-mile break-in oil change in a week or so on my M850i. I plan to change again at 5000 miles and every 5000 going forward. I will be taking lots of pics and will post a tutorial.
