Is see the 8 as a sporty luxury car with not good enough interior design and the S a classic luxury car with inspired design for its intention
I belive few will choose between these and more will go for 8 vs 911 or S vs Bentley continental. My opinion only. |

Everyone has different taste... for me m8 interior looks like proper car interior, looks very attractive and everything in the right place, but S class interior design raising a question - wtf is going on in that car..., is that a car interior or some contemporary TV stand with attached car steering wheel, oh wait and that 8:3 radio lcd tv makes

M8 is the clear winner!
Mercedes-AMG are clearly focused on people who are either half dead or can't drive or both....their interiors look like luxurious coffins...⚰️ |

I think this might be the first M where I prefer the M-performance derivative to the full on M model - at least to look at. I quite like those side carbon vents and the proper quad exhausts but otherwise I think the M850i looks better. Be interesting to drive them back to back and see if the the full-M is worth the extra money.

8 series including m8 appeals to kid inside you while the S to the grown up. No matter of opinions the fact is that the S has classic lines and the 8 sporty looks. Chances are that people spending over 100 grand on a car are not 18 any more therefore as I mentioned the S 63 has beautiful styling for its intention.
I am not disconsidering the 8. Its a very nice car but design wise... a bit uninspired interior compared with competitors. The 6 was better looking inside to my eyes. Today tough, we are spoiled with choices and I will also choose at my age the 8 but that does not mean I am blinded by BMW to praise their designs when lately they could have done better. |

Not sure why you think the 8er interior is for kids. Yes it looks less "luxury", but not childish, immature, boy-racerish or whatever. Rather a tidy (not sure if this is the right word) and clean design with straight lines, not much bling bling. It definitely depends on the preferences.

Merc has some really nice interiors. I saw an e class wagon with some special 10k interior option that was just stellar. Just don't see that level of "fancy" in the BMWs. But I'd much rather drive a BMW!

Lol that moment when in some angles the 850 looks more ///M than the actual M8.
Proper fail IMO - it needed way more pop to distinguish itself from the 850. A good example is 650 and M6 , you can tell those two cars apart from miles way but this is just .... bleh |

This car highlights the biggest problem with BMW today. It has given up trying to compete with Porsche and started competing with Benz. In doing so, it's lost 99% of real enthusiasts in the last decade. |

A few that are still driving the older, real BMWs are. Not for that much longer would be my prediction.

I agree with your perspective though on why weight and size is an issue here.

Great image gallery!
The M8 fixes the hideous diffuser/exhaust tips of the 850 and now the rear end look much better. I like both the M8 and the S63; they both have design strengths. The MB greenhouse is definitely better though. More spacious, no B-pillars, airy and luxurious, at least compared to the 850's tight interior. Sitting in both cars in night/day. But the S-Coupe was not designed to be a sports car; rather it is a quick cruiser and the interior/seats reflect that. We are planning to switch to the M8 when our E63s lease is up. Hopefully we will see a CG at that time. That said I can't see the M8 Comp be a big seller at a $13k markup. |
