850 Coupe down under
It was worth the VERY long wait. Unquestionably the nicest car I’ve ever owned. First ever coupe, first ever V8, it makes me so happy. I decided on Barcelona Blue as I loved the colour and my first car was a Blue 1972 HQ Holden (GM). Tartofu/Black interior really shows off the features and styling and I thought it was a great match with the exterior.
The driving experience is special. It is a weighty car but the power is unlimited and effortless. When you put your foot down it just puts a smile on your face every time. The X drive makes it extremely manoeuvrable around the city and gives it handling which belies its size. It’s so quiet compared to my 640d and the ride quality on performance tyres is first class. On the open road it is has a split personality. On the one hand it is warm enveloping cruiser, so comfortable and smooth. And yet at the flick of a switch or the touch of the peddle it becomes a fearless brute able to master the most intricate of terrain or leave admiring motorists in its wake. A few pics to share. A few taken around the middle harbour area of Sydney Harbour and then some taken near Port Kembla south of the city where the car was delivered. Note the Barcelona Blue colour in shade/afternoon light and in full morning light. Also the factory fitted tinted glass which is essential for Australia as well as making the car look great. |

Congratulations looks great. You'll have to go on a private road or track to feel it at speed. I was at 150mph in my 840d in Germany and it's very stable and the big brakes are superb. It is much more stable at high speed and braking than my X650d was.

Huge congratulations! Nice write up, your excitement came through loud and clear. The colors you picked look very good as well. I'm so happy for you.
If you don't mind could you take some more photos of the interior? Enjoy your new ride!

Well worth waiting for, indeed. Absolutely love that interior combination. Mega-congrats from across several seas.

Thanks all for your posts!
Today I completed my first wash. Sunny winters day so not too hot but good light to see the car. My dealer Jim K from Sydney BMW did a great job on the detail and there is not a mark on the car exterior or interior. I don't know what BMW put in the paint but the colour variation in different light is amazing. For the washing OCD freaks. It is a lot easier to wash than my black 640d GC. That was my first and last black car. The blue is very easy to wash and there are some nice design improvements from BMW. One is the front grille which is fully closed with engine off and no shiny chrome finish. The carbon fibre roof is great to wash and dry. The wheels are much easier as well as the spokes and leaner and the tricky spots more accessible (except the M brake calipers). The water seal round the boot/trunk is way better so there is less cleanup and not as much continuous minor dripping down the back of the car post wash. The same applies to the sealing around the doors and obviously being a 2 door coupe no pillar. My glass was still a bit grimy, especially the large rear window. I needed a good coarse non-abrasive Enjo cloth to lift the grime, then at least two cleans with a good glass cleaning spray. Cleaning the inside of the rear window is bloody hard. You really need to be a cirque du soleil contortionist. Getting into the back seat is a challenge and the lack of head room and the slope of the glass means it is almost impossible to get down into the far back corners. I think BMW should supply a glass cleaning wand or install a simple drop down panel in between the rear speakers to create more space for cleaning. My car is now Ozzie8 clean. Very happy with the result. |

Congratulations! Beautiful looking car and it looks right at home in your driveway.
For the inside back window, you need some kids for that. My 10 year old girl has tiny hands and is a gymnast so perfect!

Thanks Wing Co that is an excellent suggestion. The situation in Sydney is the city is covered with speed cameras or police radar traps and on most holiday periods we have "double demerits". So exceeding the limit by 20 kmh is a $488 fine and 4 points, with DD that is 8 points. Only option is go to one of the race tracks which have track days.
