It's a full-size luxury GT, not a Toyota 86 competitor.

If it didn’t had the sort of upside-down kidneys it’d be perfect.

Something I don’t understar about the convertible one is why despite being a bigger and a lot pricier car, it’s interior space, mainly the rear space is much much smaller than a 4 series convertible. 4 adults can sit on a 4 series, but not on a 8 series (6 series before)

Definitely don't like the upside down grill.
The concept had such a nice aggressive shark front end.

The whole cut-out area at the back around the rear number plate is a deal breaker for me... it just looks like someone just took a chunk out - very heavy handed.

I think BMW could make a competitor of the 911/R8, etc. with the i8, if they wanted to do so. All the hypercars have moved to a hybrid type of setup, and the combination will keep trickling down. But maximizing that tech in a halo car? Just doesn't seem like BMW is interested...

Had my car serviced this weekend; An M4 GTS is sitting outside on the lot (sans wing...guess they didn't want it stolen so it's been taken off). I've seen these cars marked up to over $200K...and here's one exiled to the lot; its $133K sticker tucked into the seat. Think they missed the mark on this car......

It's too bad really - I think the folks who have one seem to really like it, and that's good to hear - but not a car that is on the level with peers @ that price point for sure. Maybe if they had gone full bore and made a true CSL...

BMW 8-Series Convertible Caught Undisguised Ahead Of Next Week’s Unveiling

Quote:
We’ve seen countless spy photos of the BMW 8-Series Convertible over the past few months and now we’re finally getting an undisguised look at the upcoming model.

While the car isn’t complete – as it lacks a rear bumper, taillights and wheels – it gives us a better idea of what to expect when the 8-Series is officially unveiled on June 15th. The front of the car is obscured but we can see the 8-Series will have expressive bodywork that features a recessed area beneath the door handles.

Moving further back, there’s subtle curves and cutouts for slender LED taillights. The rear deck is broken up into two sections, like on the 6-Series Convertible, and the forward compartment will store the car’s retractable soft top. The rear compartment is the trunk opening and it looks relatively shallow in these spy photos.

BMW has been slowing releasing details about the car and the automaker recently confirmed plans for a high-performance M850i xDrive. That particular model will use a 4.4-liter V8 engine that develops 530 PS (390 kW / 523 hp) and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) of torque. This is 68 PS (50 kW / 67 hp) and 100 Nm (73 lb-ft) more than the previous 650i.

Additional engines will also be available and the new X5 gives us a pretty good idea about what to expect. While the crossover and convertible don’t have much in common, it wouldn’t be surprising if the X5’s turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine finds its way under the hood of the 8-Series. It produces 340 PS (250 kW / 335 hp) and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque – a 20 PS (14 kW / 19 hp) increase over the previous 640i.

Of course, the real star of the show will be the new M8 which will have a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 engine developing at least 600 PS (441 kW / 592 hp) and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) of torque. However, some reports have suggested its rating could match the M5 Competition which has 625 PS (460 kW / 617 hp) and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) of torque.
