Seeing that in real time allows you to see what the car “sees”

an interesting article:
https://www.bmwblog.com/2020/01/03/v...0i-gran-coupe/

In this article is written:

"...Seeing that in real time allows you to see what the car “sees”..."

and also :

"...BMW also has a very similar feature and can display what the car is seeing and it’s surroundings.... "

and:

" ...you need to dig through about fifty iDrive submenus to turn the system on, albeit only once, but BMW does have it."

Does anybody know how to enable it in M850i iDrive menu?

Already have it enabled on my 2020 M850i and it works great. Showed it to my wife the other evening when I had the car in full assistance mode while on the freeway. The lane change feature also works great as well. No problem changing in the 3 primary lanes of the road but when I was in the far left lane and attempted to have the car change to the HOV lane it would not.

Dig through 50 iDrive screens is a massive exaggeration. It's under Car->Settings->Driver Assistance->Driving and a simple check box.

Does it work on 2019 M850i cv?

Did you check the settings under iDrive as per my instructions? Would think so considering the 2019 has all the same Driving Assistance Pro features.

Interesting as the only difference I can see between the 2020's and 2019's is the 2020's also include Cross-traffic alert rear while the 2019's only include Cross-traffic alert front. For the display I'm guessing it needs both front and rear cross-traffic data collection but that is just a theory. One thing I do remember when I was looking up the details on how to activate in my 2020 M850i was a note that the feature was not available in all markets. Given that you are in the UK that may be a factor but not sure why BMW would exclude that even if that is the case.

is it possibly a coupe vs cab thing (different roofs/camera locations)?

The cameras are the same for coupe vs cab as both have the primary in the grill and secondaries built into the mirrors. From what I can tell the mirror cameras are what create the 3D view and hence the grey areas in the front and rear they cannot accurately produce.

That's the point. I don't have this settings (I mean "Display Assisted Driving View...") available in my car.

It also is not in my car. Could it be linked to the mega-software update that I've been trying to avoid but soon will succumb to?

Bummer and just like other decisions made by BMW for the UK, e.g., there is no M8 but only a M8C the logic defies all reasoning in at least my opinion.

It could but as I pointed out there are indeed differences between the 2019 and 2020 Drivers Assistance packages with the 2020s including "include Cross-traffic alert rear". Not sure if that makes a difference but it sounds like you are in the same boat as BranoMW with a 2019 First Edition. However, the "not available in all markets" may be the distinguishing fact for BranoMW so the only way to know for sure on your 2019 is to succumb to the mega-software update.

Check my original reply to the OP as it describes exactly how to find the setting in iDrive. Good luck and hoping the mass update enables it on the 2019s!

Well that may indeed seal the deal that it is a 2020 function only given the slight differences in the Drivers Assistance packages.

Normally I leave the house about 9am for a 9:30am arrival on the surface streets commute to the office but since I was leaving close to 10am I decided to take the long way which has plenty of freeway driving given the normal rush hour clog on that option would be over and I could let the M850i do its thing.

I let the M850i rip on the good stretches but when I hit one area that is under resurfacing construction and plenty of semi pot holes due to it I decided to slow down. In doing so I figured might as well engage the ACC assistance for cruise control vs full autonomous driving (I need to navigate the rough surface pot holes). To my surprise the Assisted Driving View still pop'd up in the the digital cockpit as I thought it only did so when full autonomous was set like the other night with my wife.

This morning was bright and sunny so it was hard to get a good picture but a little photo editing took care of most of the glare. The funky LED like display above the M850i logo is actually the Driving Assistant Camera and the green rectangle underneath the car in front is from the ACC tracking it.

Bummer and there goes backward compatible features in iDrive 7 and the digital cockpit given there must be some physical limitation, e.g., the 2020s "Cross-traffic alert rear" not on the 2019s. Even then it doesn't make sense as per my experience today with ACC only that is not even in play but rather just the LIDAR tracking the car in front's speed.

Maybe they coded it that way to keep the 20's having something more than the 19's?
