In our school, they kept the ditto machine in the waiting area outside the principal's office. It was a treat to be sent to the principal's office!!!!!

My buddy had a '67 206 FIat Dino, which had the same engine as the Ferrari and a pretty cool Bertone body. I think he paid about $6K for t. We had a fun summer in that thing, including driving it to a weekend at an IMSA road race where it got lots of attention. I was riding in it on the rainy night he spun it and hit a parked car. I had a lap belt on but it didn't keep me from putting a big bulge in the windshield with my noggin. I was picking glass out of my forehead and scalp for a month.

We tore down the motor, and marvelled at the level of craftsmanship. Neither of us had ever worked on anything except crude American V8s.

I worked the overnight shift at a gas station with mechanical pumps at the time. The corporate pricing computers were playing games with the nearby competitors, and didn't think twice about dropping the price to $0.999 and then back up to $1.009 every other night. Not that the corporate computer cared, but that meant that I had to go out to the pumps at 3:00 AM and swap out the gear sets every time the price went above/below a buck. Wasted a half hour of my life every single night for weeks until the competition went up to $1.029.....

I take exception to this remark. I haven't wrap any car around a telephone pole in 1983 or any other year. It was tree. In 1984.

You know you're getting when:

You're sitting in a rocking chair on your porch and you say, "I might even rock a little."

...instead of laughing at the Snugee commercials on TV, you now find yourself checking their web site to see if they sell an electric version!

The low temperature here was -2.6 F 'in degrees last night, and I am shivering indoors even with the thermostat set to 72 F.

On the snow front, my mechanically-skilled DW finished repairing our snow blower, and got it running for the first time in 3 years without any assistance from me. Our neighbor's plow truck is broken at the moment, so we're on our own for snow removal right now for the first time since my health went downhill.....

Well, I remember what a gallon of gasoline was 35 cents a gallon. I even remember when the gas station attendant cleaned your windshield, checked the oil and put air in the tires. Heh!

And you probably remember gas branded as "Ethyl," which was short for tetraethyl lead. And high-octane versions labeled "Hi-Test."

My grandpa was super fussy about his cars. He always told the gas station attendants not to mess with the windshield, because he feared they'd use the same rag on it that they had just used to wipe off the dipstick.

Yes I remember all the gas stations starting to sell lead free gas. Cars had "Unleaded Gas Only" written on the dash by the gas tank gage.

Yup, started with the '75 models. And the filler necks were made smaller so you couldn't get a leaded gas nozzle into them.

Long before I bought my first car, I thought Ethyl was the station owners wife.

The price of gasoline here in California is usually higher than anywhere else.

I used to ferry friends around in high school because a bunch of them didn't have wheels and their parents were off at work. They'd pay me a dime or a quarter, which more than paid for the gas I used.

My older sister did that!
She wasn't supposed to charge us since it was the 'family car', but she threatened that if we told the 'rents we would be walking everywhere.

Uncle- I’m proud to say my wrists hurt the most. I was very conscious of making sure I lifted with my legs and not my back. I done good. I just need my nephew to walk me through starting the damn snow blower and I’ll be good for next snow. I did take out the manual to figure how to use the blower but my fucking eyesight sucks and it pissed me off needing my readers to read the manual and then I couldn’t see the stupid icons for the controls on the blower. Get off my lawn.
