For some people speed compensates for penis size.

Car is available with launch control so how is that trickery? The roll-out does seem like artificially lowering the number but it also seems like others are doing it as well.

Regardless, modern cars have really made it easy for a commoner to get arrested or turned into a mist when high speed comes to a sudden stop. Please enjoy responsibly.

Also, a focus on fun would be nice. Cars like this and the M6 GC CP I had just aren't special feeling at legal speeds. They're also not great on the track so I don't think I could justify buying another ... unless I also have an exotic or two and need to spend more money on my commuter

The quick 0-60 sprints may be exhilarating but I find it gets old quick, and the engineering behind making these cars incredibly quick just robs it of feel. This is not just a BMW issue too, even with Porsche I would take a base Carrera over a Turbo any day of the week. Even the base Carrera is a little too fast since its become turbocharged (another reason why NA 911's are just so great).
Throttle House guys actually said this in their review of the 992 vs 997 yesterday. The new model is so fast that the fun ends in a couple seconds. The older Carrera S the experience lasted longer, and even at low speeds you felt like you were going fast. I had the exact same thought, that I'd be content with a base Carrera. Jason Cammisa felt similarly on this topic.

this is absolutely crazy considering the weight. it should not be that competitive with those other cars. and to the speed thing, i posted a while back that i really believe the next m3/4 will be the start of a new generation of cars. vehicles that are so fast at such an attainable price point could lead to regulations. the s58 in a 3500lb car should easily do 3 second 0-60 and every single competitor will have to keep up. you're going to have a whole fleet of $70k 10 second cars. and then the americans will catch up and you'll have $45k cars doing it.

That Z51 is mighty, mighty impressive across the board though.

Sigh, good numbers regardless but framed in a shed-load of clickbait. It wasn't 2.5s, it was 2.7s--rollout bothers me. What's it for (rhetorical)--traction and immediacy of acceleration are all factors that we all care about so why normalize them; the difference matters.

In addition, 2.7... what? 2.70s? That's very different from 2.79s. Clickbait.

With a JB4 and everything else stock, 2.59s in a Gran Coupe is achievable. The 1/4 came in 10.44s... both on desolate farm roads. In a Coupe, I'd expect a 5/100ths to perhaps a 1/10th less in the 1/4 mile and perhaps a slightly faster 0-60. My 2020 M5 Comp ran 2.57s to 60 and 10.37 in the 1/4... both repeatable. The M8 GC exhibits similar consistency.

I had 2 x M6 Comp GCs and I loved them both. I enjoyed driving them as I enjoyed my F10 M5s, F90 M5s and my M8... and I track them, too.

There is a market here--I'm a member--perhaps it's not too broad an appeal I guess but I find hitting 60 from a traffic light in under 3 seconds to be amusing. I enjoy tailgating and passing exotics on roadcourse straightaways... I enjoy beating a Lambo at the dragstrip... and I even enjoy the smug grin on Porsche driver's faces as they pull away from me in the corners on a road course. But everything I just described is fun... even losing.

I get that. They're not as engaging as some of my old 3-series that I used to drive back in the UK that had 3 peddles and were simply visceral (and kinda slow )... but the modern GTs add different aspects to the overall driving experience that, combined, still equate to massive fun.

This is pretty much why I'm going for the G22 M440 instead of the G82 M4. For a daily driver, I feel like I'll be happier with the G22.

Still...wowzers. 2.5s.

Nah, the S63 is a great and smooth engine, but it it doesn't have enough character for a super/halo car. What BMW really needs to do is make a high revving naturally aspirated I6 or V8 (or even better V10/12) lightweight super/sports car (preferably mid-engined) with a manual transmission, optional DCT and carbon core technology that could go toe to toe with Porsche... but that's just a pipe dream sadly

The M8 is carbon-tubbed as you say... supercar is a stretch, though, granted... even though it'll happily eat some of them for breakfast.

M8 powerplant should have been in an i8 looking vehicle for the same price as the i8 and dubbed a super car killer.

If the R8 can be classified as a super car, this should have been beyond... well is performance wise but aesthetically as well.

Is BMW GmbH hiring? 🤔
