I wish he would have adjusted his expectations prior to the run and just appreciated these cars for what they are, they are heavy luxo GT's that go fast, handle damn well for their weight/set-up and are not meant as lightweight track stars. Personally I would not want the 8's to be anything less than what they are, if anything I'd accept 20-100 more lbs and welcome things like massaging seats, acoustic glass, and a glass roof option that tilts up for the coupes.

Pobst still seemed quite complimentary of the car but it is a heavy weight.
The posted time is not the stellar; he squeezed a better time out of the old M6 GC comp and tire tech is at a different level today... |

Seems weird Randy set a 1:30.66 in an M6 GC and the new M8 Coupe is slightly slower. Everything else I've seen so far has shown M8s doing great lap times.

Makes so much sense when you look at it as a cheaper, sportier, techier Aston Martin that's just as good to look at. Easily one of the best looking cars in BMW's current lineup!

Yes, but this is more of a cruiser/GT car that can go to the track but will likely never see one. Outside of the forums most owners don't track.

multiple times in the video the front passenger corner of the hood appears to be lifting off the headlight... strange. Just a few seconds in to the video you see this.

I asked myself the same question when they do this with performance SUV's but I suppose that at least you know what they can do technically. Nobody disputes this is a heavy GT and certainly won't be the most fun to drive in these scenarios, yet one has to appreciate that the M8 can easily dispense of most, if not all M2/M3/M4's on the track |

And that sad day has come, where some people question what an ///M car is doing on a track

I consider that a very, very complimentary review. Randy acknowledges its purpose in life--not the track--and describes where it exceeded its design purposes and where it fell short of lighter, more agile brethren.
I disagreed with nothing. Great car; great review. |

Take the lap time, combine it with straight line speed and add the tech and luxury - there's nothing even close.
Wears the FLAGSHIP moniker very well!

Great and fair video. I think it tracks better than anything I've ever driven on track, but I haven't touched a lambo or Ferrari or Porsche.
I felt the M8 didnt need more rebound dampening personally, but I'll defer to his judgement as he's way more experienced than me. |
