8 Series gear selector
I think I may have found the 840i I've been looking for.
White on black with a great spec (carbon roof, technology plus, comfort, visibility etc) Only thing it doesn't have (which my old 840d had) is the crafted clarity. When I drove a 4 series recently I was appalled at how horrible and cheap the black plastic gear selector felt. Can anyone comment on the standard gear selector in the 8 series? Does it feel decently made and not like a horrible cheap plastic toy like in the 4? |

It’s exactly the same mate - only difference on the 8 is the centre console buttons are all gloss black rather than the rubberised plastic on the 3/4. I personally don’t mind it at all.
Swapping out the shifter is quite easy - OEM options and aftermarket exist, so if it’s a dealbreaker, I wouldn’t let it put you off buying the car you want. |

Thanks so much.
Would def consider swapping it out as I loved the feel of the other one. Good to know it can be done (and actually I have seen a kit on Ebay). It's so tricky when you have a spec in mind isn't it? You can hold out forever waiting for the exact right thing to come along or you can be willing to make some compromises and get on with life! I was hoping for ivory interior but I think they're pretty rare in white cars (some people say that's a tasteless combination) but other than not having that (and the crafted clarity) this car is perfect. 2021 with 18k. and everything else on my list. |
