It's either the Cape Town or Johannesburg airport cargo area. Very easy to pay the airport workers a bribe to get photos, as it's a restricted area that BMW AG can't assign a security detail to watch over. Each additional movement of prototypes increases the risks of photos leaking. It's the risk of doing business flying prototypes around the world for private viewings prior to the official launch.

The BMW badging is getting progressively worse with each new model. This is just an egregious placement.

the M6 badge on the back of the F06/12/13 wasn't that better

thankfully, you can order one without a badge (this may be a good thing to differentiate your M8 from the other "M" (non-M) cars
(M760i, X7 M50i...)

Wow. The m5 should have looked more aggressive like this car is.

I’m waiting to see if the price is going to be really higher than an m5. The cls 63 4 door coupe ( i don’t remember the exact name) is super expensive barely faster that the e 63 s. And really doesn’t look all that good.

I hope the m8 won’t follow the same price strategy as mercedes when it comes to their 4 door coupe.

Bmw just can't figure out where to put a badge on their cars. The m850 has it below the light but with the word competition added it makes this badge to tall so they just said f it and slapped it where they did here. It's getting ridiculous.

Leaks happen when you want them (or allow them to ) occur by doing such viewings , as you indicate.

The cavalier response from @scott26 quite literally lets us know that sometimes " leaks happen " on purpose as well .. otherwise a few extra bucks and this baby would have been naked .. Not just a T and A shot.. ..

If BMW AG really wanted to keep this under wraps all they would have needed to do is call Bob Mueller .. :

I'd prefer a small M8 badge on the side fenders. Ultimately if we need a badge to differentiate models then we have more seriously problems to deal with.

Glad they kept the concept wheels, but I suppose the M8 will have other wheels.

Side fender badge will be present by default, although surrounded by a smaller horizontal decorative trim piece than on the Concept as it doesn't extend to the door like it does on the Concept.

Two very similar yet different wheel designs seen on the M8 Competition so far, one of which is very true to the Concept.

yea barely faster. also hate to ruin your dreams of a $100k m8, but this is at the top of the line in bmw's lineup. it won't be cheap and people who can actually afford this car won't care.

Yeah it will be higher than M5 for sure. I still don't like the rear end though.

Love it, but looks like a M850i with other rims and exhaust.
I like the prototype. Oh yeah, that's the LCI version....

This leak-game annoys me, whether if it's BMW marketing or courageous employees. I am missing the time where you really first saw a product the day they launched it. (Btw: Same goes for smartphones etc.) How are you feeling about this?

Car is looking stunning though....
Just a bit of fun/tease for enthusiasts isn't it? 99.9% of the world neither cares about or even knows the M8 exists...

Looking forward to this one. Reckon the GC will sort the rear roof line/c-pillar shape that keeps me awake at night.
Rear bumper still fussy as fuck though.

I'm sure BMW really gives a shit about my option

Yes, the standard model seems to have been designed sufficiently wide to begin with (190cm, versus 185cm for the all-new Porsche 992 for instance).

Agree.
The car does the talking and not the “M” badge.
As much as some get way too wrapped up on “M badge” worthiness, I think this M badge placement needs to be completely removed in this model. I can’t believe the black cheap looking badge is the best design BMW could come up with?? This is Honda Civic level of badge adornment.
