They will probably realize their error and recall it
I think they realized they did make an error. They could charge you $135-$150 for their hour long oil change. Except now they had to actually do the work under the car instead of using the vacuum canisters at every station. Just shove it in the dip stick , suck out oil, change a filter above, charge premium, still have the customer wait in the lobby for 60min .

My E70 would report on oil level rather quickly. The F26 says I have to drive for 1/2 hour or something similar before checking. Way too long to see that the car is underfulled or overfilled. I haven't changed the oil yet so not sure if warming the car first reduces this time or not, but then I have to deal with hot bolts and scalding oil.

Either way it's a PITA.

Do apps like BimmerCode provide a more precise measurement than the in car function to help with changing the oil?

BTW, the dipstick location in the picture is exactly the same as my E70 V8 so maybe it was just cheaper to leave it than redesign it?
Always hated to wait to find out what the level is on both the E92 and F25. I always take our Acura on trips. Air up the tires , check oil, and other fluids. Been a great to us, can't say the same about BMW money pits. Thank goodness i do most of the maintenance.

Bangle designs were polarizing. You are simply at the other end of the pole. No biggie. Its okay to not agree.

It doesn't just say OK, it shows level. Just digitally.
Much more convenient.

I think a LOT of people were at the other pole. I was so far at the other pole I stepped away from BMW for 6 years and learned how much of a disappointment it was to own an AMG and a supercharged car.

BMW offers "value services" that I have found to be competitive with local private shops. For oil changes the cost of the service isn't much more than the discounted cost I can get on filters and oil and that difference is almost completely offset with the free wifi, coffee, drinks and snacks in the cushy waiting area

Also, BMW already publisheds the oil capacity so unless one has a hard time counting one should ever over/underfill.
So you have alway been able to empty the full capacity from the car? Or is the listed capacity taking into account that not all of it comes out? I had alway thought the listed capacity was for a new fill on a crate engine, maybe that was my ignorance?

and as far as I know or have seen the system does not warn when overfilled, so it has always been in my best interest to underfill and top off.

Hey dude if you didn't notice this thread has nothing to do with car design language.

Chris Bangle is a genius and he makes a shit ton of money....

In fact he's the chief designer for Samsung.

Yeah, I love mine, it's below freezing outside, my ride to work is 15 minutes and I still can't get an oil level reading, trying every day since last week.

eDrive calm down. I don't think he had anything to do with your beloved i3.

What we're all saying is if you go designing BMW's to mircowaves...

Dude loved kimchee so he moved to Korea or something.

SMH

Happy to see a dipstick again though.
