Amazing performance but it's a Camaro. Has such a redneck stigma to it, lol

If you ever sit in one, the first thing that really jars is just how bad the visibility out of that thing is. Looking out of the windshield makes you feel like a gunner in a pillbox. And then you look at all the plastic. Sure, it is fast but I sure would not want one. If I was going American, I would go for the a Mustang GT350.

I might consider this if you could only see out of it. Nah, still wouldn't buy one...then I would have to become a fan of Nascar and wear wranglers and drink longnecks. Just kidding...just kidding...

well, I hope its faster than the 4100+ lbs of heat soaking junk that was the old ZL1. Pretty sure the current 1LE would smoke it at "power" tracks much less anything involving actual grip.

Five out of first six responses are negative.. shocking lol. The new zl1 is going to leave a lot of pretentious m3/m4 owners in the dust. It's shaping up to be an amazing car all around, and yet I would expect nothing less than for this community to deride it.

I like the LT4 exhaust note and Camaro has better rear suspension than the Vette. Hope they fix the styling when the refresh comes.

Nobody's denying the car's superior capabilities but rather its questionable design, limited outward visibility, and build quality....all traits of the new gen Camaro.

What questionable design and build quality issues are you referring to exactly? The ones f80/82 owners conjure to comfort themselves with? The car is generally agreed to look fantastically aggressive and the new camaro has no widely reported quality control or build issues. So please, spare us the time honored fall backs of the BMW boys.

That subjective non-sense is the only thing the fan boys have left. Now that the ZL1 has a better chassis, better steering, better handling, better dampers, a more comfortable ride, a better differential, a better engine, more power, more torque, faster lap times, and a better price tag...

Guess I'm out of the thought pattern with most of you. I have an X1 for my DD and 15 months ago I sold my C-7 for an M4. 16,000 miles later I am still in love with my M4. Even though the new ZL-1 knocked the crap out of my M4 time at the Ring, I still have no desire or need to bash the Camaro. And even if I had a GTS in the garage, I would still feel the same.

Alot? It will leave most in the dust, but there is still a stigma, it's still a coffin with windows, still has a cheaply made and assembled interior and the rear seats are pretty useless.

I have owned a Camaro, and being how good this alpha? chassis is, I would love to own it, but I can't for all the reasons above.

The M3/4 guys that have the knee-jerk reaction to put this and other american cars down look small in my eyes. Where's the objectivity?

The new ZL1 looks like an impressive car. I am curious if they've solved the over heating issues of the LT4 as seen in the C7Z? For my money, I'd buy a Corvette Grand Sport with the Z07 package if I wanted a Chevy track car right now.

While the 6th Gen chassis is light years ahead of the 5th Gen one, I think the increased HP/TQ numbers have also greatly contributed to the faster Ring lap time of the ZL-1...
It isn't just power. Not that simple. Everything on the car has been upgraded, better brakes, lightning quick 10-speed transmission, upgraded magneride, new electronic diff, lighter by 220lbs, etc. Like you said the Gen6 chassis is a vast improvement. It definitely is the sum of its parts.

If that's the case, I don't believe that the Z/28 will improve on it's time as much as the ZL-1 did. I speculate that the Z/28's time will be close to what the ZL-1 put down, albeit with less HP and TQ...and maybe weight.
Power plant is still rumors, no one knows. It could just be the LT4.

The Z28 will be quicker than the 2017 ZL1. The car is getting a huge aero treatment, which will shave seconds off at the ring. It won't need the hp, shave 300lbs+ off ZL1, add carbon ceramics, huge aero, ditch magneride for spool valve shocks, lighter wheels, more tire, stickier compound. Z28 is going to be the ultimate GM track package.

Look at this thing, GM is not f*cking around with this car.

No, they sure aren't. The GTS could have been all that and more...instead it was a missed opportunity.

For what it's worth there isn't an overheating issue on 6MT Z06's . I've done 30 minute sessions with my friends 2015 in 90 degree SC heat and it doesn't miss a beat while blowing away pretty much anything on track while still being completely stock .

My friend, who is a very good and fast driver, had one and I witnessed heat soak on numerous occasions in his. He no longer has it because of all of the problems, and replaced it with a GT4 (and also just got a ZCP M3).

Btw, you may not recall, but the heat issues existed long before the auto tranny was made available on the C7 Z06. There are long threads about it on corvetteforums, and people still have issues.

The car is a beast, but it does have issues, and eats consumables at an alarming rate.

Both transmissions were offered at the same time. The auto's are the ones having the heat issues. I'm sure a few manuals too, but its mostly the autos. And this is on track only. Not street.
