40-yard dash time

Many factors influence a person 40-yard time - age doesn't determine speed. While there maybe the a correlation within the general public that increased age results in decreased speed, that can be explained by low-levels of training, loss of lean muscle mass and generally being lazy. More important factors to consider; muscle fibre compostion (fast-twitch to slow twitch), lean muscle mass, training history and training type(s).

There are two guys in my office who are constantly arguing about who is faster. They have agreed to run the 40yd dash, just waiting to find a good spot to do it (corporate park we work at has a lot of car traffic). Hopefully I can get a vid and I also called winners. One guy is 26 and doesn't do anything athletic. The other is 42 and plays mens soccer. The 26 yr old says hands down he will win. Should be funny to see and even funnier if you knew they personalities.

HAHAH this thread was funny

I ran a 4.59 in high school during my athletic days, track spikes on a college track. I was considered fast BUT fast forward 5 years after high school, college life and sitting at a computer desk 8 hours a day I am sure I get in the low 5's range haha

*Update*

11 Days later and my hamstring is still borked. I've had to sit out of our beach volleyball league for two weeks.

It wasn't as minor as I thought, big bruise I got on the back of my thigh.

I have had a couple of hamstring issues in my life from playing soccer. I would skip the MRI and Ultrasound. Regardless of tear or strain believe rehab (whether professional or on your own) will be what you have to do.

Will say that if you don't take the time to get it 100% it can drag out for a really long time. High School senior year tore mine, Freshman college season was lost to rehab.

Definitely gotta rehab it - you will be predisposed to it happening again so the best way to avoid future issues it to get cracking on exercise.

If you know a good physio, they'll be able to guide you. If not, I'd be happy to throw some help your way with some guidelines/exercise - did a sh*t load on rehab in my S&C Masters program

I do go to the gym quite a bit so if you want to PM me some links/advice on exercises I'll take it. I have skipped leg workouts since this started and done only very light cardio.

It only took me 2 seasons as ref before I felt my hammy strong again, and I didn't even have an external mark like that.

Thought I'd provide some recent* baseline measures from a presentation I delivered last year;
- If you're doing less than say a 4.8 you're faster than the average Div I football player

This thread needs more traffic. I love the concept. All posters who run need a required video.

mtecnic , you should not run with that sore hammy. No way you'll be ready in 8 days. You'll just tear it more. I made that mistake years ago. Slight strain (no bruising) when playing softball. Played again a week later and suffered a tear. It took months of rehab and recovery and that was in my 20's.
