Coolant Reservoir - RK Autowerkes

Has anyone replaced their coolant reservoir. RK Autowerks makes a billet unit.

Possibly the issue of the stock plastic unit was a problem on the M5? Not sure. I’ve not seen anyone post this mod on the forum.

Level performance also makes a billit aluminum reservoir. I have a friend who has one for 5 months now and no issues.

I believe Level Performance one is less expensive as well.

Please share the installation process with us. Particularly interested in how you migrate the sensor over from the oem piece into the new aluminum unit and any tips for those following you. Seems like a must upgrade for a long- term owner.

Sorry mate, I don’t work on the car. I’ll ask if there were any issues once the shop is done the work

There was a drain hole or some attachment point missing on that unit from another user so confirm everything fit and looked as intended.

Yes there’s a note about a gasket that I’ll bring to the mechanics attention

Seems kinda crazy to buy the plastic catch pan and just not go Billet. I know the cost is a lot different. But still loosing coolant on the road somewhere is a big "sucks" anyway.
Hassle...possible engine damage.....messy.....time consuming...tow job......time wasted waiting for parts.....cranky wife missing her trip.
What was the other billet tank brand spoken of here?

The other one is level performance which you can find on IND

Actually that's the part I am referring to above. It's only an overflow liquid catch-all. So if you do start to leak it directs the fluid down and away. But it will not prevent a malfunction of the plastic tank and therefore hot spraying fluid. It's just like having a pan under a kitchen sink leak.
Plus you need to remove the plastic tank and replace it back once this in in there. Just smarter to bite the bullet and buy the Billet tank. Leaks solved forever I'd bet.

Yeah, correct. I didn’t look closely at it and thought it was just another style of tank.

Reservoir installed

Reservoir installed. Very easy - no drama says my trusted tech at Motorwerkes in Calgary.

Car is on the dyno today. Some great info to share later from a custom tune.

In the YouTube video, the guy removes the two orings from the stock reservoir and reuses them. The tech on my car said he also reused the orings because they were essentially perfect. I called RK Motorwerkes and asked and they said they don’t instruct people to reuse the orings for obvious reasons, but most people do because it’s not a wear and tear item and they’re a pita to source.
