Not sure I’d want to buy a used car THAT old, but good suggestions all IMO!

However, As I related in an earlier post, we didn’t buy either of our daughters a car in high school, but during college we let them take one of our cars when they needed it. It is a 1999 Plymouth Voyager (yes, a mini van). This was in 2012-2014. They were in college several hours away.

We still have the car. Still runs like a champ, although it has no AC, no dashboard, no headliner etc. My husband took all the seats out and uses it as an alternative to a pickup.

So I guess an older car with a good reliability history isn’t such a bad thing. But we already had the car (we bought tnised in 2007).

But buying one that old might give me pause.

I would recommend a Civic or a Toyota Camry like a 15 and up model

Did you just ask if a Chrysler product is reliable?

I'd say a used Japanese car is good, or if your kid won't need a car in college then just lease something.

I drive like a shithead and was an even larger shithead at that age, best not to get anything remotely powerful or confidence-inspiring. My 15 yr old FWD Camry would slide in the wet because I cornered too fast, so I'd recommend AWD.
