and thats totally true, but again, getting a nicely set up shot because you don't have the resources at hand will probably end up being a better shot that somebody snowblowing their driveway.

BTW congrats on 10k posts

For people having a sunny winter, how about a corona commercial-esque picture.
Then it really shouldn't have been called winter H20 phases. That leads people of think of ice, snow, blizzard, etc. Sure people can do ice cubes but that's about it. I am not saying it's not a good theme, it just doesn't give those in warmer climate a lot of options.

Yeah maybe the word "wintery" was a bad choice and he should have said "cold" instead but its the same damn thing, open for interpretation by the artist.
Just cus he picked the theme doesn't mean it's set in stone (no offense OP). We had a previous contest in which the theme was changed because people didn't like it. In this case, not many voiced their opinion because they already live in colder climate.

If you don't like that and want to sit out until you can submit something you've already shot then that is your choice (and please understand that when I say "you" I am using that in a general term, addressing everyone, not you specifically).

I don't see why its such a big deal. Get creative, use the extension Vudoo gave us all or else just sit an wait until the next one comes along.
For sure- no hard feelings. We're just having a good chat.

Anyhow, I don't mind going out and shoot something new. In fact, I usually try to. IMO it doesn't give those in warmer climates with a lot of options. So if you're in Los Angeles, what do you have to play with-ice cubes?

Ice rink?
Sno Cones (contrasting cold shaved ice with the warm SoCal sunshine...)?

My plans have been torpedoed by the weather. We went from temps in the 20's but dry back to our usual temps in the 40's and raining. One morning my BMW was covered in really cool ice crystal formations. I was going to use that as my subject. Sadly, we aren't going to get those conditions again in the near future, so I'm pretty much screwed......

Unless something presents itself this week in NYC, I'm probably out....

its "wintery" (implying...just the cold end...but not necessarily winter related) and I did say...

"This submission does not have to be SNOW. There are many different forms of cold water, many of which, have nothing to do with winter and can be found on a day to day basis. Cold water includes condensation, vapor, ice, liquid water, whatever you can come up with. Steaming soup does NOT count, I'm looking for the cold end of the spectrum. "

Clouds, water, snow and ice, take your pick

Ok, I give in. Pretty simplistic, but I think that it fits the theme AND I like the evening light here.

Oops, got my forums mixed up and too lazy to custom size, so I grabbed what was available.

I'm surrounded by opportunity! Times Square and a freakin' blizzard OH MY!! I'm just not that motivated to go find something to shoot at 11:30 PM....

I wonder if I have anything decent on the camera already.....

Thanks Dave, appreciate it. It is a small "park" in New York, kind of hard to describe. Basically an area about 50' x 300' deep wedged in between a couple buildings in midtown. In the summer it is really nice with tables and chairs set up and you can sit and relax and listen to the waterfall that runs along the back wall. It is called Paley Park, on 53rd between Madison and 5th. It has some architectural significance that I don't understand and wouldn't be able to explain.

The gates were closed so I shot from the sidewalk and had to frame it tighter. Glad that was the case, otherwise I probably would have shot wider angle and lost some of the intimacy.

Wow, that's a seriously good shot dude. I thought it looked like an abstract paint piece as I scrolled down.

Greenland... Brrrr

I'm not much of a winter image photographer, but nothing says winter to me like an endless horizon of Greenland glaciers. Just a quick snapshot out the window coming back from Switzerland earlier this year.
