Yes, but a matte-finish? No one is going to go for that imo. Even if it does work I bet there will still be care involved. Nissan is working on a paint that regenerates scratches, now that's interesting.

Nice idea, but it will never transpire.

The article references the Z4 Coupe Concept in the matte silver - that was stunning. It wouldn't work for all colors/cars, but it could look damn good on the right ones.

You're wrong....Nissan is not working on it...it's on their 2006 cars. Car and Driver already tested this from a car in a dealership lot

It's out? I thought Nissan was still testing it. Which models have it?

Do you think you can buy the paintjob for any car (aftermarket)? That would be really cool to have...

I prefer a glossy finish, not a "matte" finish.

Do that with a dark-colored BMW, and welcome to Swirl City. Those car washes don't get your car clean enough to towel-dry afterwards...the towel will just drag the excess dirt across the paint, and make crazy swirl marks. You might not notice them after the first car wash, but after 10-15 you certainly will.

May I ask what color?? and then what your defination of "factory new" is?

The colors Lexus traditionally comes out with allow you to do things like this and never really notice any problems. That being said, I think the cars look quite dull from a color point of view. My mother has a Lexus ES in a goldish metalic color. Gets it detailed once per year and then runs it through the car wash in the winter and has my father wash it in the summer. It looks good still (it's about 6+ years old now), but put it next to my mystic blue car with 5 coats of zaino on it and there is absolutely no comparison My father even made the same comment when I drove down over Christmas.

Depends on what you mean by inferior. BMW clearcoat is generally regarded as being "softer" than US/Asian cars. I wouldn't say BMW paint is inferior. It IS water based and the clearcoat is powder (If I remember correctly).

MB introduced a superhard clearcoat with the Maybach and moved it down through the product line.

BMW paint qual

I've had two Bimmers- a 99 540i in Jet Blk and a TiAg 02' M3 cpe. Generally
speaking the finish is slightly inferior to other makes, BUT nobody else has such a wide variety of awesome colors. Their grays and blues like sparkling graphite and interlagos blue nobody else does. Try finding a carbon black or imola red somewhere else. Forget it, only BMW has it. So...........

One has to take a little more care of a bimmer but the choice of palettes is
way better IMO.

I know BMW uses "environmentally friendly" paints now

they're softer than the old harmful paints.
