Stop sale

Half of my dealer's ordered cars of all different series have a stop sale on them including the M8 and M5CS. Same with everyone else?

Everything for the 8 I'm aware of has been very limited. Cameras, audio modules, fuel tank ventilation, brake welds, etc., etc.. Usually just a software update where the stop sale just lasts a few days, or something that's limited to a few hundred cars.

I'm not aware of a stop sale on the 8 right now, but given the timing, I would think it's more likely a confused CA making some assumptions related to the S58 main bearing shell issue.

The cameras and audio modules are not something that lasts a few days anymore. They are short on parts at the port with cars being stuck there for at least a month. Parts started arriving this month to get through the backlog of waiting cars...and still not enough parts.

Depending on what the issue is...

If it's something that requires a part replacement, like the RAM in the G80 or other models, yes, but that just affected a week's worth of cars I believe.

Something like the stop-sale due to the camera non-compliance earlier this year was just software related, and handled through a software update that was resolved before most people new it existed.

Stop sales affected more than a week's worth of cars. It looks like they now have enough parts to cover the camera retrofits, the RAM is an ongoing issue as cars are subject to the stop sale as soon as they're produced.

9 days for the G80 and 2 weeks across multiple models from what I'm aware, unless you know of something different (attached). I don't think any cars produced after 5/21 were effected, they were just held for delivery for several weeks while waiting for replacement parts.

I'm not trying to deny part issues, they are abundant, but most are being delayed, cancelled, or altered prior to production, and not part of a stop sale.

This is just a portion of the vehicles on stop sale for RAM as of today sitting at the port for our store. Another 12 in transit with the same stop sale. 6 more just produced and awaiting transport.

Were any of them built outside of that 2 week window?

I for one am more worried about service issues, not just for myself, but for the poor SA and how they'll have to deal with lemon laws in different states. It shouldn't make a difference for some items where they could still get you back on the road and wait for a part, but people have been without cars for several weeks waiting for brakes and things that actually matter.

All of them. As recently as this week. Yeah, that's another supply chain mess with the brakes.

Huh? What needs to deal with a Lemon Law in this situation?? If a vehicle is being placed on a "stop sale" does not constitute a lemon law. What am I missing here?

I was referring to service issues (so after sale).

Are you thinking since the part is put in after production it will cause reoccurring issues that will cause lemon law impact?

I just don't understand where it comes in at with your post.

A bit off-topic to the stop sale since we were talking about shortages there, I was referring to service issues for part shortages in general. It doesn't necessarily have to be recurring, a vehicle going out of service for more than 30 days is a lemon law issue for many states.

So if someone NEEDS something to be able to drive the car but it's not available due to a shortage, you could end up with an issue.

Obviously the dealer will do everything possible to get you back on the road for this reason, so in the brake pad case, that might mean resorting to aftermarket parts if you mention the 'L' word, but there are many other parts where that's not an option.

Yeah, I see where you are coming from. I know some states wills say 3 attempts AND 30days of loss operation, then some say OR. I doubt we will see many of these honestly. Now I know why dealers will take parts from other none selling models and put them on a customers vehicle to send them on their way, instead of waiting for parts. But I guess it could be a possible.
