Fixed by Empire Auto Spa—and very creatively so, too! Note: both the wrap and the underlying paint were damaged by the fuckin' peasant of a human being that stole the roundel.

Thank you to Matt for his skill with wraps and for the brilliant idea of wrapping a gloss black border around it to cover the damage. I actually think it looks better hence I now consider it an aftermarket aesthetic add-on and not a band-aid.

Two things happened yesterday which gave me an idea. I was reading your latest posts, and replying, before moving to complete the customization of my new home CCTV solution. I moved from Dahua (complete crap) to Unifi Protect (which I love). I’ve been working on my smart detections where you create a specific zone in a camera view (such as a gate only or the driveway but not the road) and you receive alerts when a human or car is detected.

Hello. With all of the cameras on the 8 why don’t BMW create smart detections so when the car is parked in vulnerable locations we can switch it on and catch the FC’s! BMW have developed technology, seriously advanced technology, that can detect when we are about to have an accident and switch on the cameras to capture the pre and post footage. Human being motion detection would surely be a walk in the park.

Like my Unifi Protect solution, we could create the parameters for detection, such as if human < 30cm from vehicle then activate cameras and go to alert push (sorry I’m an old COBOL programmer). Like any CCTV solution you want alerts that you can trust such as humans, as opposed to false alerts such as reeds in the breeze. But I’ve no doubt we could get the balance right in this regard as well as be mindful of car essentials. We could move from mostly passive camera views which need to be user activated to automated push alerts based on real world parameters.

I believe the system (event data recorder, video recorder, or the like) is always recording and in the event of an accident, up to x amount of time before and after the event is saved.

The vehicle does have the capability to take remote photos of the surroundings via the app, it would be great for BMW to tie this into other vehicle sensors (tilt or jar).
