I'm sure I'm in the minority but I've never been on board with the Alpina wheels.

Watched this video yesterday and for the first time in ages I'm actually a bit underwhelmed by an Alpina in the looks department. I bet it's a joy to drive though.

Ha! You're joking right? You must be having buyers remorse.

Nowhere near $200K ($150 loaded to the gills) and would make very short work of your M850 at a red light or freeway run.

I won't mention the rarity as that too would possibly be lost on you.

I know you're kinda known on here for controversial comments, but this one crosses over into asinine territory.
I guess you can't read. $193 is close to $200; but I guess you failed at rounding numbers in math.
You must be retarded.

Also the alpina is built on the 850 frame; not the m8 frame. Read your facts, fool.

The B8 uses the same 4.4-liter V8 twin-turbocharged engine from the M850i and the former is based just on that. Then of course Alpina "tunes" it in several respects (transmission, exhaust system, cooling system to name some of the relevant engine-related stuff).
exactly this ^^

they took the m850i frame and added a lot of m8 components but not the M8 six-piston front brake calipers and/or the electronically-controlled mechanical limited-slip differential for even more handling and stopping.

it's a fancy m850i gran coupe. it's nice, but it's like one of the limited first edition green and gold without the full "m" packaging but with higher alpina tuning.

Let's just say THE8 is truly special no matter what model we look at. Expect soon several youtube videos/reviews where the M8 squares off against the B8.
for virtually the same money, I think most buyers would go for the full m8. But I'm sure there will be some that want that rare alpina badge.

I have seen the details of the Grand Coupe, in green it is gorgeous.
Alpina has always been settle in their changes in the outside.
They just make a great car even better.... and more exclusive.

Yes and I would add the resale value of these vehicles as most if not all Alpina models hold their value very well even after many years because they are exclusive cars and they aren't so common.

I'd love to see one up close as I have a standard 8 and 8GC, the GC being the nicer looking car imo. Here though, it's....too plain not enough Alpina. Like a lot of the new Beemers it'll probably look better live and that would as I said be the first in a long time for an Alpina to fail to move me from vids and pics.

In the other post I forgot to add the following (engine-related) in favor of the Alpina:

Pistons upgrade
Intercooler upgrade
Intake manifold
Exhaust manifold,
Larger twin-scroll turbochargers

Near £160k with almost every option and surprised to see no Lavalina interior as yet.

I've got a soft spot for Alpinas but I really do wish they'd return to the previous generation's scalloped style wheels. I much prefer over the current design where the wheel meets the tire.

This vehicle isn't my deal but I could see the draw to some people
Though they are a pita to clean and maintain, I am actually considering for the next summer the 21" Alpina wheels in black for my M850i. I agree that 20" (for summer) are way too small on any 8 series model and 21 is, or should be the standard from factory! I prefer them in black or black shadow/anthracite since I got bored of the classic silver sterling wheel tone.
Agree on the black. I had a B6 GC which I didn't particularly like and kept it under a month LOL

But I did powder coat the Alpina wheels black

You are not alone as I've stated the same in several threads.... just too "busy" for my taste.

Just for fun I built out a B8 to my spec using the https://www.alpina-configurator.com/gb configurator. First off the absolute worst car configurator experience I've had to date. BMW has their own digital issues but at least their configurator is light years ahead yet still behind other reference examples. That aside my build turned out to be £153,545.00 which includes the 20% VAT. Hence, unwind the VAT and convert to USD and it comes in at $169,403. Taking that into perspective hopefully the price point is indeed lower for the true US delivered models.

That aside I built it with Tanzanite Blue, full Merino Fiona Red/Black interior, CF trim, B&W audio, CF roof, etc. to match my current spec. I also chose the black rim option (upcharge) and attempted full shadowline but Alpina is somehow stuck on the chrome grill unless their configurator is broken within its rendering. Surprisingly you have to pay for the Laser headlights and ventilated seats which both are standard on a M850i... WTF? I also attempted to fully de-badge (it's an option) but no matter what one chooses you are still stuck with gold (gaudy) or silver (my choice) branding on the front spoiler.

Attached is the final build rendering (including the chrome grill and zero indication of the Fiona Red/Black interior). Granted I could live with it until I eradicated the chrome grill but thanks but no thanks now that the 2022 M8s have been confirmed as I'd go with a M8C Coupe built to the same specs for roughly the same cost any day of the week given I could less about 4 doors. Granted there is still the argument regarding exclusivity and how that may translate into resell value, etc. However, no matter how you slice it a car is a depreciating "lack of asset" and I choose elsewhere for exclusivity in appreciating assets.

Instrument cluster, steering wheel & center console details are really nice changes to me.

Thanks for the call outs and I guess I need to take a closer look. I was mostly going by the launch video in which there was only the steering wheel call out, branded instrument cluster, and badging on the center console. Everything else looked to be standard M850i interior.

Depends on the MB model. On the traditional sedan grill you have the plastic cover. On other MB's the radar is inside the star, which is nicer IMO.
