Comfort access bootlid opening

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Should all 8-series have the function to open the boot / trunk by waving your foot underneath? I have comfort access and my car does not do this (2020 model).

Yep. Good luck with that tho. Can't get it to work consistently on any of my rides since MY2012.

+1. Considered it a miracle I was able to open mine 3x in a row on the M850. Should buy a lotto ticket with that kind of luck

Thanks - it's never worked for me, so will be on the list of a couple of other issues when in the dealer tomorrow.

Once I found the right angle and spot, it has worked consistently on my 2019 850 convertible. Took trial and error at first.

Does anyone know where the sensor for it is? I had a look under with a torch and couldn't see anything resembling a sensor as such.

Had it on my X5MC and you have to put your foot straight in and straight out NO side to side at all... was kinda a pain.

Dead center, also do not let your foot get too close to the bottom, don't point your toe up keep it flat.

You sir, are a genius! Worked at both shops I went to! One less thing for the dealer to sort when it's in tomorrow

I never have a problem. Works 100% of the time. I find I have to kick just to the right of the rear BMW badge.

Always works for me on my 20 840gc. Kick right under the middle.

It has boggled my mind as to why the manual describes it as a wave as that was nothing but pure frustration. It is definitely a swift kick dead center which results into 100% success. Shot this video for an older thread on the topic.

I had the same issues on my 330i but works every time now once I got the hang of it.

It is annoying that the stupid ‘beep beep’ when closing it with the foot swipe can’t be switched off.

Agreed, if it doesn't work first time every time, you may as well just hold the button on the key. Have it on my 8 and it's worked 3 times in two years, I end up looking like some idiot doing river dance behind a car for no apparent reason

Woah! Just a straight kick in and out? And you can close it too??

I could never get it to work consistently and just felt like fool waving my foot left to right multiple times. Sometimes it worked other times, squat.

Now I can try this! Thank u!

Yeah, that's the trick, I always tried to waive my foot like you describe with poor results across like 3 or 4 different models. Once you have the right motion and spot, it's reliable.

It also reliable opens whenever I'm washing my car, typically when I have a foam canon pointed full blast at the trunk lid (usually due to shadows or me getting a little too close).

I actually get a grin out of it when I do so but in general I just use the "kick" to open the trunk/boot when my hands are tied up with grocery bags, etc. to open it and then press the button to close it. I think it's a safety consideration for the auto close sound and hence not being able to switch it off.
