Lurking for a month or so whilst I decide what to do with the M850, which goes back in February 2022.

I've enjoyed the car, but it's been a challenge getting use to the GT-sized car after having a 4 series on the track.

I did have the 850 on a track here in BC, but brakes did not perform, as expected, so lowered my expectations and was sure an M8 was in my future down the road.

Now putting the following order in with the dealer:

2022 M8 coupe
Sapphire Black
Sakhir Orange Merino
Carbon Trim
Ultimate Package
Carbon Ceramic Brakes

waffling on Barcelona Blue at bit at the moment

Plans for the car:
  • Vertini VS01s/PS4s
  • KW springs are the choice I believe
  • Downpipes
  • Racechip
  • Akropovic exhaust maybe
  • need to code out the fake noise being piped in, if that is a thing in the M8. certainly was in the M850 and one day it went on the fritz with annoying static being piped in
  • Window tint
  • Reflector delete if that's available
  • More carbon bits on the exterior. Must be carbon grill somewhere

As you can see, I've not done enough lurking yet to learn from you all. Will certainly reach out to Ben to see what he can provide

So, you thought the M850 was too large, but you are going to a car that's 12" longer?

I'm looking at going from an M4 to an M8C next year when the updates are announced. I"m also debating on the color hoping they offer some new ones. I've seen an 840 in Barcelona Blue and thought it was ok but didn't really grab me and wonder how much better the color might look on an M8.

That's correct on the length. Thanks for calling me out on that.

It's all about track selection now

Maybe one of those tracks that goes in a straight line.

I'm joking. I was saying if you thought the M850 was large on the track the GC seems like it'll be really huge. While it's definitely too much car for 1 of me, I think they'd done a great job making a really large svelte looking sedan and was surprised how large it didn't look the first time I saw one in person.

No, it's just me fucking that up. M8 coupe, not GC (I meant CS, I think). You had me thinking the M8 coupe was 12 inches longer than the M850 for a second though. haha

Ah, no worries. Then we're both looking at the same car.

I took my car to the track a couple times so far, and in addition to the brakes, I would try to seek out some adjustable camber plates (not sure if they sell any for the F92), or to get a track specific alignment prior to heading out. I didn't my first venture and suffered some understeer and rollover that left me pretty frustrated (coming from an F80). Since, I just swing by a performance shop the day before and after to do my track prep, and it's made a big difference. I'm able to keep up with some 991.2 GT3s while leaving some F8x and 991.2 GTS cars in the wind.

I'm not happy with the brakes either, but mainly from a confidence point of view. I think they work pretty well, better than I give them credit for, but they just don't make me feel comfortable enough stopping from 130+ while pushing 4300 pounds downhill. I end up finding myself braking early after a long straight, so it's more of a seat time thing, but I just can't see myself getting over it without an upgrade.

This makes me think I should add Carbon brakes to my order! But I'm buying this as a GT car so it probably won't see any actual track time. lol And being a convertible I thought I really didn't want to hear the carbon brake squeal that much.

Oh don't worry, the steel brakes squeak too!

Yeah, but I've found keeping them clean they don't squeak. My X5MC started squeaking, so I have them cleaned every two weeks and no more noises. lol

yes absolutely, I'm being naïve to think the car would be ready in that regard. I very much appreciate the Ground Control camber plates in the 4 series. Bad pic, but these were the cat's meow. Still have them sitting around. Made a huge difference on the track. Will need to see what's avail for the M8
