Gesture control camera(s)
Does anyone know where the camera(s) is(are) located that track our hand gestures? I've had gesture control on 4 cars now and have grown to use it without thinking but this car is fussy and I'm trying to figure out why.

Do you know specifically which piece? For example, is it the weird blue light or is there a camera beneath a piece of transparent plastic? Something else? |

I have a 2019 850i and I shut mine off. It wasn't bad but I didn't need it nor like it. However I had a 2021 840i for a loaner for 3 weeks while something on my car was being fixed and it's gesture control was way more sensitive than mine, drove me nuts!

Other faves are to dismiss a call (only the wife's calls are answered) and the mute (two finger peace sign) when I'm on the phone with the wife. Then there is the rare fist/fingers to navigate home when I'm some where in town I'm unfamiliar with and just want to find the best route home. Granted some of this took a while to get used to, e.g., for the mute I used to do the two finger point towards the iDrive screen which was very hit or miss. Nope the answer is a stationary hand and extending the two fingers (aka peace sign) under the gesture control camera. Same goes for all the rest, i.e., skip a track back start stationary with your thumb pointed to the left and then do the motion. |

Same here, super useful while driving. Love that feature. My buddy got a 2022 but his gesture control feature kept malfunctioning, he went to the dealer and they had to order him a new unit. Super disapointing for sure, brand new $146k car. He is waiting for over a month for the part.

I've found mine works, though, and perfectly if I perform some of the gestures as though I'm reaching and pointing for/toward the passenger side mirror (volume and fist gestures). |
