BMW M8 Competition Gran Coupe 0-62 / 0-100 Times and Sound

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
A short test of the M8 Comp Gran Coupe for a 0-62 run. The weather was pretty bad, the road was wet and traction wasn't ideal. Still 3.2 is impressive in those conditions.

So whats a good estimate of regular (not ideal) conditions with summer PS4's...(times)?

I do understand that 3.2 is to 62 and not 60 here.

I'm guessing 0-62 in ideal condition would be 3 seconds or 2.9 for 0-60.

Car and driver recorded 2.5 seconds for Coupe.
GC should be 2.6 seconds

LOL still drinking the koolaid--- thats a rollout time so add about .2 or .3 seconds to a optimal test vs everyday where draggy will show different numbers. (and yes I know C&D tests were to 60mph)

We have quite a few members here that have done real world tests and you wont see that magical 2.5 or 2.6 unless you are modded. In a vacuum maybe (like ideal conditions as I mentioned and premeditated) but I drive on a regular street in a regular world (if you call Cali regular hahahah)

Hey Vic, yeah C&D seems to add pixiedust to the results through additional "calculated calibration" for things like slope, wind, density altitude etc.

I was around 2.8/3.0 (no rollout and rollout) on the non comp m8 coupe bone stock with PZeros with brake boosting. I guess it could be possible to get better results using launch control on a fully prepped surface. Which only happens at a drag strip or illegal street race. Maybe there's "one in a hundred" where using LC give you a magic 2.7-2.8 actual 0-60 and so 2.5 with a 1-foot rollout stock. But the other 99 times it will be much closer to 3 flat 0-60 and 2.8 with rollout results most people are getting.

Tuned yeah different story. 2.5 with the PZero's brake boosting on service road with sand all over it. Need to do some more testing for sure.

Irrespective of 0-to-60 metrics, M8C GC remains a superb vehicle - a must buy if the budget permits.

That sounds a bit optimistic

I already mentioned what I think about C&D numbers but as to the difference between the M8 GC and M8 C... here you go:

Rather impressive with all that added meat on the bones only 185 more pounds.

PHYSICALS

9.1 inches longer than coupe
1.4 inches wider than coupe
2.3 inches taller than coupe
7.9 inches longer wheelbase than coupe
7.7 inches wider rear shoulder room than coupe
7.1 inches more legroom than coupe
3.5 inches more rear headroom than coupe
185 lbs more than coupe

I assume by "optimistic" you meant 0.1 second difference between M8 and M8 GC

Based on base model spec of M8 on BMWUSA website:

Power to weight ratio of M8 Coupe CP is 0.1437 hp/lb
Power to weight ratio of M8 Coupe is 0.1397 hp/lb
Power to weight ratio of M8 GC CP is 0.1377 hp/lb
Power to weight ratio of M8 GC is 0.1339 hp/lb

So with about 0.006 hp/lb difference between Coupe and Gran Coupe I dont expect more than 0.1 second difference on 0-60.
For higher speeds like 0-160 then aerodynamic and friction factors will take the place and Coupe must be slightly quicker than GC due to weight and shape

0-60 = 2.59s with just a JB4 on pump
1/4 mile = 10.4s @132mph
... otherwise stock.

She's fat.
She's pretty.
She's family-capable.
She's also fu#kin' fast enough to show her fat, pretty, family-capable arse to a Lambo or whatnot at the dragstrip.

I thank you and goodnight!

I actually prefer the M8GC. It just looks sexier with that longer roofline. Or maybe I'm just biased as a current M6GC owner.

Stellar performance numbers on any M8 nevertheless.

That would be around 3.1 to 60 with summer tires on a cold day?

I think that's impressive and shows how well the car hooks up in less than ideal conditions...
