I was just posting my thoughts on a car I saw for a few seconds. It didn't hurt my soul or make me sleep less at night. Just kinda made me laugh and I thought I would share.
No where did I say I was better than anyone here and I am not!! (it just seems the M-Gods believe they are..IMHO) This whole thread makes me laugh, that's the reason I simply posted my thoughts.

Your comment:

"I really really hate to generalize, but just guess what kind of person was driving both this and the 7"

So discrimination is funny to you?? That part I didn't laugh at. Y'all have a good day and let's just play nice in the sandbox! Opinions are one thing... judging others opinions are entirely different.

Dude, I was joking... I'm sorry if it came off as 'racist' but that was definitely not my intention.

Also, putting an 'm' badge on your car is one thing (bmw put ///M stickers and stuff all over my 335is stock and I know its not an M car), but calling your car an M6 as this person did is clearly a cry for attention and a wish for something he doesn't have.

There is anyway so little difference now between an M and a non-M. Same engine, just tweeked.

If he drove ~$40-50k cars instead for ~$460/month and saved $500/month, how much would that $500/month be worth by retirement age (let's say around age 70, in 30 years?)

500/month invested in the stock market with a 6.5% annual ROI yields around $500k by age 70.

What is $500k as a function of this hypothetical 40 year old man's expected liquid net worth by retirement age? I guess that's the key question to ask. If this guy is otherwise very frugal with his money and ends up with a liquid net worth well above $500k then in hindsight I would say he comfortably could afford a $100k car on a $150k/year salary.

It also depends on what his expectations are for retirement age quality of life.
What happens if he dies at 69? How cool would a 70 year old look and enjoy a 650i convertible then? What if we've run out of oil by then the year 2043?

Ah, life is but a gamble in itself; enjoy responsibly.

Well I'll admit I know next to nothing about finances or financial markets. It's not my area. I was simply looking at the past 30 years and extrapolating, but I don't know if it's reasonable to do that

I found this useful little summary chart on average annual ROIs for the S&P 500

http://people.stern.nyu.edu/adamodar...histretSP.html

Over the last 50 years it's been 9.73%

Over the last 10 years? 7.02%

I thought 6.5% was a pretty conservative estimate based on those figures.

I'll disagree with you on the point that $150k isn't enough to lease a $100k car - if I were pulling in that salary I'd probably be leasing a car in that price range. But then again, I absolutely love cars and driving; they serve as one of my primary passions and sources of entertainment. As a result, it would be easier to justify the expense to myself.

As for many of the users being immature teens and twenty somethings who happen to be part of well-off families, I suspect you're right. The alternative, that users who lack any sort of maturity, basic communication and discussion skills, and any grasp of spelling, grammar, or other writing skills but yet are somehow able to hold well-paying jobs, is rather baffling. Then again, perhaps I put too much faith in the education and business systems by believing that these skills are still valued and necessary.

Where did I assert that I am "the only one with money?" Certainly nowhere in my post. In fact, you seem to have missed the entire point of my post. I was asking how people who lack maturity or other basic skills (see above) manage to be making enough money to afford vehicles which are often out of the reach of much of the public.

As for the issue of race, I never mentioned that at all. Perhaps you weren't referring to me, but then again, it was lumped into a paragraph that begins by addressing me by name. You can likely see where my confusion comes from.

Hey! My grammar's fine...and if you set out to turn every single post into an essay, you're just wasting your own time. Text based social conversation is about conveying a message, not worrying about the finer points of your grammar, spelling etc etc. With that being said, I still pay attention to grammar and spelling. I don't however give a damn about sentence structure and organization. It is the internet!

Do you not pay taxes? In order to take home $8k a month you're going to need to make much more than $100k...

^^ Sorry math wizard. I did a quick mental calc, but even after taxes, you'd still be fine with a $100k salary.

It's weird when we get OT in OT.

Bottom line is, BMW offers CHEAP ASS leases. Leasing a 100K car from BMW is different than leasing a 100K car from Mercedes or Audi.

It doesn't take a math wizard to know that in that tax bracket you are paying 30 - 40% of your income. I would not spend that kind of money on a car with a salary of $100k.

Please excuse my hyperbolic statement, but I was only referring to what the 100k comes out to per month. I am grateful for you catching my error.
