Can anyone tell me what this thing coming out of my intake is?

I think on the 840 that is part of the emission control

Is that needed, or can I get an intake that doesn't have it? Any suggestions on an intake that will look good in the bay and provide some sort of performance.

It is not needed, it just to make the luxury BMW car to be quieter.

Unfortunately, I don't have any knowledge of good intake for your 840.
