Lancer Evolution engine sound question???

This Mitsu Evo raced me the other day!

What in the world was the sound coming from the engine?

The car sounded like an air-compressed robot about to attack me!

That thing was freakin' fast!

He was ahead by ½ a car length then my car bogged
in first gear just as I was about to shift. Stupid speed governor!!! Can't wait for the Dinan download.

He lost me from there… He didn’t want to race at the next light.

But what in the world was that sound???

It has a turbo, so yes it was a blow off valve

Before I bought my E90, I had a Mitsubishi Evo for a few years. That car is fast even when it is raining cats and dogs.

Now driving my E90 with DSC in the rain.....I feel the computer is working against me when I want to drive fast.

if its a whinning noise its the turbo, but if its phssss sound its the blowoff plus if he stock you wont be able to hear the blowoff

Well... I owned an Evo.

After my mods I was at 414 at the wheels.

I loved when people who just didnt know(Like you) would pull up next to me.

AWD launches are fuuuuuuun.

Dont worry... you had no chance. Just be happy he let you stay close enough to hear the BOV.

I didn't pull up to him. He pulled up to me and plus it was a running start. Trust me I knew what I was getting into! I know lots about the EVO. I saw it keep up with a Lamborghini on TV once.

It's one bad ass vehicle. I could tell it wasn't stock. But I wasn't just going to let him drive on by. That BOV sounds freakish!

I guess that's why M3's and M5's exsist.

My couzine has a Stage 2 AA supercharger on his e46 m3. and most people dont notice hte intercooler at night so we get tons of STI and wat not wanting to race and burn them. But yea take a good look at the car when before you race. You shouldnt have a problem keeping up with a somewhat stock one. I mean i cant speak for sure yet my car isnt dont with break in and i drive my car like a newborn until breakin. So give me a week or 2 and ill confirm all this info with you,.

Evo 8 was teh first in the US.

yup, but that's cuz stock evos don't have BOV's they recirculate.

if it was stock, it's probably jsut the whistle of the turbo spooling...

i'm getting an evo x in 2008... wahahahhaa... evo's are fun. the '05 8's and the new 9's are super fast... crazy hp/torque numbers with just a few bolt ons (e46 m3 killers) with only a 2.0L 4 cyl and a moderately sized turbo. Also, the awd provides them with smoother/more even acceleration than your rwd...

don't ever try to race one of those bad ass cars ever again. 0-60 in 4.7, stock. to put it into some perspective, a stripped down e90 got 6th? or something in a time attack... the evo by bugformance (that orange works evo) got first, detuned to cap boost at 19psi (i believe).

watch out for the 9's and the '05 8's... they got upgraded hot sides... 20 extra HP to the wheels from '04-'05... the '05s are amazingly fast. my 325xi for sure can't keep up... your 330i might be able to keep up early, but you'll get blown out as soon as the turbo kicks in. but then at higher speeds 100mph+ you'll probably start to gain back some of that ground purely from having two extra cylinders... haha --and that german autobahn high-speed stability.

I've driven the '05 evo 8. my coworker has one and my cousin's bf has one also. once the turbo kicks in at around 3,000 rpm... it jsut keeps pulling and pulling. they both have the works p2 ecu tune which eliminates boost taper so it just keeps going.... SO FRICKIN FAST.

From my experience with Evo 4 and Evo7, the 4G63 engine didn't improved too much. The different body style (plus the different LSDs) makes the car handles a lot different. From EVO IX, the 4G63 engine has added MIVEC. So I guess the IX should have a noticeable difference.

However, I still love the raw power and handling of a EVO3 (a friend's car)....those were the golden days for Mitsubishi/Ralliart in WRC.

Yes it will. Now 335 with twin turbo and a chip may get interesting. Then 335Xi next year and look out. Looking forward to the EVO X.
