Question: Why can the BMW Designers nail the new M8 and the Z4 Kidney Grills? But they can completely screw up the rest of BMW's lineup. I can not understand that.

And half the people on this site will tell you the upside down kidneys on the 8-Series and chainlink grills on the Z4 are the worst things to happen to them in the history of everything.

Point being, everything is subjective. I personally like the looks of the grills you mentioned. I also think the upsized grills on the X5 and X7 fit the imposing character of those vehicles, and I like the styling direction BMW is taking the rest of the lineup. So to each their own.

Am I crazy or is there no comparison between this and any Porsche sports car. The M8 is not a sports car. It's too big. The size is more comparable to a Panamera. I mean the M8 GC would be almost directly comparable to the Panamera Turbo. ...just saying. Only thing comparable to a GTS is maybe the price but then if you're just comparing price you could bring any car into the mix.

It's supposedly a lightweight boat packed by electronics and closets, sat by 100kg+ dudes to void all that carbon core weight reduction and low center of gravity. 1600kg would make more sense for a 911 "competitor".

I have a question.
What will you choose M8 grand coupe or Panamera GTS?

GTS? I'd take an M8 Gran Coupe over a Panamera Turbo S.

40k more than M5 = epic fail. It cant be more than 15k if they want to sell it and Ill take a 911 GTS over this at that price
Two completely different goals.

One is a long drive cruiser.
One is a true sports car.

Hint: Well, you don't get a hint if you cannot figure it out.
I wouldn't call this a "true sports car". Lol

I'm not seeing a whole lot of separation between this and the 850.

How much for the one on the left???

it's as sports car as they get when you count cars that are within affordability. Sure a McLaren or Ferrari would be a true sports car but they aren't really affordable to the normal Joe.

I hope they make a GC version as they large Grand Tourers are in my opinion out of proportion. The rear quarter panels is always too long.

For 150-180k I'd personally take a GT3 or turbo S over the M8 any day of the week, but that's not to say I don't like this car. The M8 will definitely be as niche as the Z4 IMO Due to its price range.

For M cars, most buyers usually stop at 4, and some at 5, to use as a daily then have a more exotic non BMW car as a weekend toy. That's only what I've seen on the forums here and in person. Could be wrong though.

I'm sure it'll sell, but nowhere near as desirable as a P-Car.

Not bashing this car FYI. I hope it's super successful since I'm a hardcore, but realistic, bmw enthusiast.
Lol good luck getting a new GT3 for 180k. On the used market they're going for about 190.

New you're looking at well over 200k
You can get a used GT3 for 160-180. You can get the 2015s for 120-130k

You're right about the 2015 because no one wants the lower powered engine. The likelihood of finding a 991.2 below 180 is almost zero especially if you want a manual. Then once you add tax even used ones are pushing 200

Edit I realize that's for my area specifically

You're adding tax on any car you buy (unless trading in). Either way, there are P-cars in the M8 price range that will be more desirable to most people.

The BMW M8 could have more than 600 horsepower

And if that number's not big enough, a forthcoming Competition model could have even more

https://driving.ca/bmw/auto-news/new...600-horsepower

It’s no surprise BMW is building an M version of its 8 Series, even releasing the M8 GTE long before the production base model just so it could go racing.

But now we’re learning a little bit more about the M8 production car and its powertrain.

The M8 will use the same engine as the new M5, which means at least 600 horsepower from the 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 should be on tap.

In the M5, that mill propels the car to highway speeds in a ridiculous 3.1 seconds from a standstill. BMW hasn’t said much, but we can guess the M8 will lose some weight, gain some rigidity, have a tuned suspension, and put the centre of gravity down low.

Keeping it all on the road is a sophisticated AWD system that can be switched to rear-wheel-drive and send 100 percent of the power to the back for some slidey-crashy action.

BMW now seems keen to offer a little more than what the “regular” M versions come with, continuously adding “Competition” models to its lineup with even more power and handling upgrades. Just as the M5 received a Competition model with 625 horsepower, the M8 is likely to get an even further hotted-up variant.

The M8 has no release date, and it’s going to be expensive.

I am guessing they are going to shoot themselves in the foot with the price. They are most likely going to get to 911 turbo s type pricing and at that price there are cars that fit this criteria "better".

As a few have mentioned , this looks like a 850i with quad pipes. I'll reserve final judgement when it's fully released but I was expecting a lot more flares , and slightly different body shape.
I guess we are all too used to being able to tell the difference between a 650 & M6 from a few miles away and it's just not like that anymore ever since they introduced the "M" badge at the front of the regular models.

I doubt they hit turbo s Pricing. They may hit loaded up C4S pricing (130-150k) but not turbo s pricing which is after options going to be closer to 200k.

Even a base turbo is 150 ish and that is bare bones nada... After options, they also hit the 170-190 range.

I just built an 850 online and got to $125k, so you are probably right, an m8 maxed out will probably be in the $140's. The price didn't change much from the 6 series, I figured it would.

Indeed, rear bumper seems identical to M850i = M Sport, with the exception of the rear apron part to allow for quad pipes and specific diffuser. i.e. not the sculptural M8 GC rear bumper with larger and better integrated vents

Or it might be an intermediary design - different from the M Sport bumper (I think Scott had mentioned functional vents) but not quite as bold as the Concept.
