Going to be so sad when everyone who buys this at release sees that year 1 70k depreciation.

The AMG GT4 is nothing but a CLS breathed on by AMG. You’re out of your mind if you don’t think the M8 could compete at that level. Or a troll. You pick, I don’t care either way.

So $40k more than M5 with similar performance?
40k more than M5 = epic fail. It cant be more than 15k if they want to sell it and Ill take a 911 GTS over this at that price
Two completely different goals.

One is a long drive cruiser.
One is a true sports car.

Hint: Well, you don't get a hint if you cannot figure it out.
Most people just look at the price range.Sport car at 150k is Porsche's territory.

M8 Gran Coupe may earn the ultimate driving machine title. Looking forward to the test drive / less so towards first year depreciation.

Just saw an original-gen M850i on the 91 the other day.

Wow it sounded heavenly with that V12. I feel like this 8-series is just a rehash of the 5'er like previous 6'er generations did and not unique

I'm #1 on the list for the M8 at my dealer. However, after sitting in the 850 tonight at the X7 preview I am not sure I want the M8. Cockpit is really tight and the windshield rake is significant.

For 150-180k I'd personally take a GT3 or turbo S over the M8 any day of the week, but that's not to say I don't like this car. The M8 will definitely be as niche as the Z4 IMO Due to its price range.

For M cars, most buyers usually stop at 4, and some at 5, to use as a daily then have a more exotic non BMW car as a weekend toy. That's only what I've seen on the forums here and in person. Could be wrong though.

I'm sure it'll sell, but nowhere near as desirable as a P-Car.

Not bashing this car FYI. I hope it's super successful since I'm a hardcore, but realistic, bmw enthusiast.

You’ve got your AMGs mixed up. We’re talking about the E class-derived GT4, not the bespoke GT sports car.

Lol good luck getting a new GT3 for 180k. On the used market they're going for about 190.

New you're looking at well over 200k

I thought this was supposed to have the M8 GTE's transaxle... the information in the OP sounds like it's just going to have the M5's drivetrain instead.

Yes, exactly. I cant put my finger on it but somehow it seems the shadow of the 6 series is casted over this new 8 series. Makes it hard to justify the pricing.
Very curious product positioning/marketing case. They tried so hard though - even the badge is different.

You're right, I got things mixed up. I stand corrected. AMG GT4 is comparable and is a strong competition.

I'm afraid M8 production version cannot afford to go any softer looking in this game. Should be exactly as the concept car is.

Hopefully it's 640hp or more, so they can one up the 639hp Mercedes AMG GT4 Edition 1. That's the car the M8 Gran Coupe needs to beat.

They call 7,400 rpm a high revving engine now? ZFat slushbox must have convinced them it's high revving

Give me a GT3 for that price. It's a beautiful car, but in that price range there is a lot of competition.

Unlike the M5 the M8 is actually purpose built for Le Mans and has a unique chassis.

But yeah it's a 2 door M5 off the track. On the track I'd hope it turns out a step up.

They want it to be 'Ultra Luxury' like the 7 series but sporty.

I doubt they succeed but that's the marketing push they are going for.

From Automobile Magazine:

"We’re told that already the M8’s Nürburgring lap time is beyond any other M product to date … including the M4 GTS, which managed a 7 minute, 28 second lap back in 2015."
