Hello Everyone,

I'm new to BMW and recently purchased a 2020 M850i. Do I need to purchase a subscription from AT&T to receive the OTA software upgrades? The app is saying an upgrade is at the install stage and my Galaxy phone connects to the car via bluetooth and wi-fi but the install does not execute. Thanks for any insight.

No you do not need the AT&T service. Not sure why your's isn't updating like it should. Others should chime in soon on that.

My upgrade was downloaded to the car and I could see it, but it sat there for a couple days before I got the ready to install message.
Sounds normal to me.

Most likely cause for the OTA software not installing is a low battery charge.

Take the car out for a drive until the Auto Stop Start works (a sign the battery has enough charge the maintain the cars systems when it is off). Park up on a level area, let the car cool down and see if it starts the process.

If not, hold the volume knob in for a few seconds and let the Idrive unit do a reset. For some people, they have held the volume button in for 3 resets before releasing and that has worked for them.

Thanks for all of the suggestions, I was told the battery was replaced before I purchased it.

I wouldn't think it would be the battery (not that I'm super battery smart). These updates seem to be finicky things. Mine usually suggests doing it when I first get in the car (hence me not thinking its the battery). The car seems to need to be cooled down. Try going out to it after its been sitting for awhile and turn on the aux power and often it will come up then. Although sometimes it doesn't. Did I mention its finicky?
