BMWs are usually a bit less expensive, so I'd guess this car starts out at $115 - $120k.
This does not compete with the S-Coupe. At least I hope that was not the intention.

I think it looks really nice. The rear end is too bulky and tall IMO. You can tell BMW pulled out all the stops to reduce the visual height: the biggest ducktail line I've seen on a BMW, a thick horizontal crease right below that, two more horizontal creases below that, the giant license plate space, the vents, contrasting color diffuser with another big horizontal line through it. If you just look at the rear end and picture it as one color without all the creases, it is just absolutely massive and so tall.

Also it'll take some getting used to the connected grilles. I think this may be the first time that I have ever preferred the chrome (or I guess "cerium grey" in this case) grilles to the black. It looks too big and too much like one piece in black to me.

if that's what your eyes tell you!

it looks to me like what BMW would have done had they made a new 6 series. it just has an 8 on it.

this car is much longer, lower, leaner, and meaner looking than the mustang, particularly at the front and also noticeably at the rear.
The side view of the mustang shows how much that body rises at the rear.

That's AWD for ya. But yeah, agreed, it's a boat, but a fast boat.
AWD is heavier but I've seen around 170 lbs. This thing is heavy with or without AWD.

I noticed that too, they should have used the carbon core technology from the 7 series...

It's only fast 0-100 because of AWD system, this is just going to be another go fast in the straight line car... so will the M8 and M8 GC.

The design and tech are beautiful, but having an M6 that's slightly lighter than the M850i, I can imagine how the new 8 will be like..

Whatever I have said about this car,
I have to admit here today that it is extremely beautiful and desirable...

I want to see it parked with the previous 6 series and the original 8 series...

It's interesting that the G05 X5 has two 12.3 inch displays, similar to what Merc has on its E and S class cars. I assumed that that would be the new normal for upper-end BMWs as well. But this 8er has a 12.3 display plus the more traditional 10.25 inch display. Odd to me.

Thank god this turned out to be a beautiful car. I was fearing BMW was going to be muck it up. I can breath now and my fears were unfounded. Let's hope the Grand coupe will be just as gorgeous

I love it. It's 90% of what the concept car looked like. They really did a good job.

This is exactly the same as those distorted leaked images. Can't believe that it is the same car. Hopefully that the new V8 is realiable, so I can own one before V8 extincts.

The 6 series is dead, long live the 6 series!

The 6 series is dead! Long live the 6 series!

Honestly, the front end looks similar to the 6 series, while the profile and the rear are different. However, its still as heavy as the 6. To me, its more a new generation of the 6 series, rebranded as the 8.

Weight comparison with 90% fuel, 75kg driver

F10 550i xDrive = 1955kg
F13 650i xDrive = 1930kg

G30 M550i xDrive = 1885kg
G15 M850i xDrive = 1965kg

Seems a bit weird that the previous generation dropped a bit of weight from the 5 to 6 but the new generation is quite a bit heavier. That is probably why it got the extra power - it needed to outperform the M550i!
