Massive Buck
Massive Buck by David Stephens, on Flickr We spent two-days looking for this guy and finally saw him 20-minutes after sundown as our passes for the refuge expired. I'm kicking myself because we decide to go left instead of right. We shot mule deer drinking from a tank, while this guy was standing right by the road in beautiful light. Oh well... I'll be back... Dave

This is the same hawk in the tree as a above, taken from the same spot. It's the difference between 309mm on the 5DIV and 500mm on the 7D2.

Lucky Shot !
I mentioned last week that we were in for some good opportunities to see (and shoot) the aurora borealis. It did indeed prove to be a good week and I managed to get aurora shots on 4 evenings last week.
The latest was on Sunday evening and even though the aurora forecast was not very good, the sky was so clear, I thought I'd go to the West Beach to have a look anyway. We were treated to a brief and totally unexpected display of the aurora, but it was whilst setting up, to check exposure and composition, before it got totally dark, that I struck lucky. A beautiful shooting star in the frame - Pure luck !

Thanks Dmitriy.
You were just down the road from me for that "Colorado" shot. I love where the prairie and the mountains come together. Bucks & Mountains, What More Could You Want? by David Stephens, on Flickr

Awesome shots. I really need to get out more. This is the one downside to not having my hour-long commute any more. Much fewer daily opportunities to grab pics of the countryside.
