Wish it were that simple!
If I got the car with 20-30 miles on it I would? But lo and behold this car because it sat on the lot for several months, of course it had so many test "hoy" drives!! So it had 550 miles when it was delivered?! And now I feel like an hypocritical idiot trying to "BREAK IT IN" when I know for a fact this car had so many abusive test drives!! Maybe 50 at least each 10 miles give or take?! And, No, It wasn't a demo! It was sold as a brand new lease! Would you try and continue with a break in till the ever so tantalizing 1200 miles I find myself pushing 5 RPM often being cognizant of the inescapable factoid that this car wasn't given a fair chance at real much needed breaking in But that begs the question and I find it assuaging, that car magazine pick their new cars to the limit while reviewing them and most of these cars aren't "broken in"!!! Please advise Thanks

I would drive it hard from the get go. Just make sure that you observe the 1200 mile service.
I saw in the M5 section that someone missed the 1200 mile service by a 1000 miles and experienced engine issues with under 5k miles. Now BMW denies warranty on the engine... |

Congrats on the new car, you will love it!! Enjoy in good health and many happy miles!! Drive it "like you stole it" and enjoy your leased car, IMHO. This is what I did with my leased F90 M5 from day one. Others might disagree though and want to follow the manual recs. However, as noted in prior post, make sure to perform the required 1200 miles break-in service on time. Stay well and safe!

The m cars may or may not have electronic limitors, but I don't think so. You can take an 850 to redline and blast it on day 1. I think you can do the same with a bmw m8comp but I'm not sure. |

It's great to see that not everyone is drinking the "no revs over 4K rpm for the first 1200 miles" rubbish. I'm convinced the reason so many older BMWs have oil consumption issues is that people baby these engines far too much and therefore the valve seals don't get seated properly.
Whoever ends up buying the loaner cars I get will be happy to know that I did not follow break-in procedures...

There appears to be a myth that additional power is unleashed when the 1200 mile service is performed (my SA told me the same) but it is just that; a perpetuated myth |

Congrats on the gorgeous M8 convertible. As others have pointed out just make sure to get the 1200 mile service and you'll be golden. Enjoy the drive!

Honestly, I would still break it in.....better safe than sorry.
I know we all think break in periods and the first oil change is fake news.....but tell that to the guy in the M5 forum who waited 1,000 miles past the interval to get his break-in service. His engine blew shortly after he finally got that break-in service and BMW initially would not cover it because he did not get the break-in service at the correct time (a bill, that he says, is now over $80,000). The power unlocking at the 1200 mile service is false.

So late to the Soooma party but why why why ask when you have had so many M's...and multiple S63tu variants (Soooma and I have known each other for quite some time). Just do your thing man!!
Enjoy that M8.
