New 8 series coupe is an amazing looking and highly impractical car. Why put 2 useless seats in the back of a such a big car? My m235 has way more leg room in the back compare to 850(based on the videos I saw), and I'm talking about the coupe, not convertible! Even though the niche market for this car is probably the middle age wealthy single people, but they may want to take friends or family to a dinner or lunch.
Looking forwards to m8 GC!

Not expected, but I love it.

Nice to see the foldable hardtop fad is over.

It aint ugly but ~$130k or more with options is a very tough pill to swallow. My guess is that this thing becomes the new 3 yr depreciation king of the BMW lineup. Great for people buying used as they come off leases.

M8 Vert sniffing $150k or more?

With the cabriolet, I've grown to appreciate the design of the 8er more. With the coupe, the 8er looks more sporty. In cabriolet form, it looks more luxury focused. So you really have different body styles for different people.

Not saying the S-Class (closest comparison I can make) is a bad car but to me it's the same large luxury car in different forms vs. the 8er which I see as having multiple personalities in different forms.

It's hard to see in that pic, but you can't even sit in the rear with the deflector in place, as there is a horizontal plane covering the top of the rear compartment.

BMW Individual paint and leather from that extensive palette should be downright spectacular on this.

This is surprisingly beautiful. I'm ok on the Coupe but the Convertible really transforms the look for me. Awesome stuff - hope the next gen 4 convertible models this look in which case I'll be really sad if the M4 cab is not available with a manual

Looks better as a 'vert.

It just baffles me how they got the interior so wrong on a car this expensive.

I literally don't think this has one advantage over the AMG GT 'vert which is basically priced the same.

The Merc is far more unique design with a better interior and driving dynamics.

Retractable hardtops have become a net negative, rather than a positive. They add a lot more weight, they use up more trunk space, and they severely limit how a car is styled. Their original positive was a weather tight seal for year-round driving, but that's no longer necessary with modern, multi-layer fabric tops. You'll see the next-gen 4er vert eliminate the hard top and move back to a fabric top as well.

Soft tops are generally associated with nicer cars. Folding hardtops never look good on four seat cars, witness the E93 and F33, awkward is generous.

Folding hardtops have their place. They work pretty well on mid engine cars where you're not really sacrificing already low practicality. And they certainly work better when you have very little structure to cover.

You also can generally have a much lower rear deck height when using a soft top, giving more of the actual convertible feel when the top is stowed.

Ya, this car weighs more than 1400 pounds more than my 911 Cab and is almost two feet longer. The back seats are equally unusable in both cars. I think it's crazy, but I have a good friend who has been driving M6 verts for years. He loves the big size and GT ride and he can fit a set of golf clubs in the trunk (I sure can't do that in my car). He's the market for this car. btw, he hates my Porsche. And as they say, that's why they sell both vanilla and chocolate ice cream.

A wind deflector eliminates the ability to seat rear passengers in all 4-seat verts. By their very design, the deflector needs to be directly behind the front seat passengers. The problem with BMW's design (and all other manufacturers except Porsche) is that the wind deflector blocks the rear seats even when it's not deployed. To use the rear seats, you've got to manually remove the deflector and store it in the trunk. Porsche's design is brilliant as the wind deflector is electrically deployed from behind the rear seats. It retracts back behind the seats when it's not being used so that the rear seats can be used. (see at 1:40 here).

gdamn car is beautiful but I like the interior of the lc500 more but prefer the aggressive lines of the 8. I was pretty set on getting a lc500 in a few years.
