This is just a “what’s possible” exercise, guys. Relax.
And to show what is really possible, why the sky is the limit. Would I add meteorite inlays to my M3 anytime soon? No. But to a 7 or 8 series? Hmmm... it’s intriguing, more interesting than same-old wood or overdone CF... I’d definitely want to try out those calipers, if that’s what’s in store for the next gen M3 then sign me up!

Compare: when the E36 came out in Dec 1990, even with that car's early build problems - at the time, it was known as the "Hubble" - the wait list rapidly grew to six months and there were no discounts, not even floor mats. Last edited by ScottAndrew; 01-03-2019 at 04:47 PM.. |

This is actually pretty cool. From the unique multi-coat painting (not sure I would have chosen San Marino but a darker blue) to the 3D printing. I think this is well executed and an interesting celestial inspired interpretation. I think the people that are not giving it credit are shortsighted. This could mean a lot of cool things to come if you're willing to pay. I'm sure it will be quite the fortune for this stuff.

Only place you see an 8 is the msrp. They only did this to have a "flagship" car.

The 8-series is a gimmick. Please don't act like anyone buying this car is buying it for the practical and utilitarian design to begin with.
Imagine driving a car and actually touching space rock in the process. Trippy and cool for an earthling like me. Why not do this if you can?!

What a unique and intriguing exercise.
3D printed brake calipers - would the hollowed out, organic structure make real life ownership a pain with all those gaps and crevices for brake dust to accumulate? Meteorite inlays - curious if they are veneers or some sort of material constructed with meteorite dust ? How much meteorite do you think is available for commercial use? |

I'm guessing that this is a one-off project requested by a super rich customer who already own enough meteorite(s) to make it possible. Said person would also agree to foot the vast R&D cost needed to pull this off. Reminded me of news about a Rolls Royce painted with real diamond dust...
BMW did not do this to get us regular folks to place an order for the same car, but rather, to showcase that they can push the boundaries in what they can achieve. Not all of us like the style, but the one who paid for this seemingly does... |

Personally I think this is awesome and right up my alley! Would have liked to see the leds in the roof vice the center console. That's a bit odd but cool concept. The calipers are insane and ingenious. Good for them!

They probably just called up Rolls Royce and said what crazy inlays, paint, etc can you do to a 8 series. The only thing I like BMW doing is calipers or things that enhance performance. Over the top stuff, meh, probably a limited, profitable market though.

I thought this was a joke initially, come on BMW, "night sky" on the calipers. That's horrible.
