I've been showing my beater civic some more love since it just passed 100k miles. bought it with 50k 2 years ago.
- Bought a steamer and cleaned up the high touch areas, seats, and dash. - aux port just crapped out... so bought a new one off amazon for $20. its awesome how easy these cars are to work on. - was bored yesterday so I got some sandpaper out and brought the headlights back to life.

Barely even broken in! Car came with new tires but I opted to switch them all out for Michelin Defender T+H. Brand new OEM hubcaps and headlights on the way.

My daily is an Acura that makes 99whp. Pretty annoying to drive on the highway because Average cars nowadays have about 2x the power. Thinking about ditching it and getting a “better beater” like a Mini Cooper lol

Depends on what you define as beater(s), but we've got multiple vehicles. Depending on weather, time of year, etc but I/we try to make it a habit of driving each one through a full tank of gas and then switch so they didn't sit too long.

We don't really have a beater but we do keep a third car in the fleet. The husband drives an F-150 Limited. I drive the M5. We keep a 2018 Cadillac ATS for running errands in tight spaces or parking in crowded places.
I was driving a Corvette Z06 when we got the Cadillac. We wanted something to take grocery shopping and that was more practical than a giant truck or sports car. We are thinking of changing the third car to a roadster of some sort. |

I had an m30 e34 from 180k-205k miles. Most dead-nuts reliable car I've owned. Sold it to a guy who let it sit for 4-6 months (not connected to a charger) and then in the dead of winter, his daily (<10 y/o) Camry didn't start. 27 y/o E34 fired right up so he started driving it more regularly. It got flooded once under my ownership, puddles of water in the interior, clutch was slipping like hell from being soaked. Soaked up the water with towels, put some diapers in the affected areas, drove it a bit so the clutch dried, and never had a single issue. My e30 is reliable as hell too. 230k on it currently. I've had that car since high school and other than a wheel bearing going out (at over 200k) I haven't had a single issue that wasn't directly caused by something dumb that I did. |

My 2002 F250 7.3L Diesel 4x4 longbed Supercab is my "beater" but I'm looking at about $3-5k to bring it back up to par due to very delayed maintenance.

Another plus for beaters. I have 4 cars. Two I care about. Two I couldn't care less. Someone rear ended my beater Honda while a family member was borrowing it. No problem, other party's insurance is paying for it. Dropped it off at the nearest body shop like it was dry cleaning. No sweat, don't really care so long as it's fixed. If it was my M3 CS I'd be stressed out about matching paint on the Lime Rock Grey Metallic and reading reviews on body shops. An old white Honda can't be that hard to match and even then do I really care?

Nah, I've been working at Boeing for the past 20+yrs after getting outta the military, I'm still a union hourly guy, so to a point "moving up" to management would be a pay cut since they don't get paid OT for going over 8hrs in a day. Variety is the spice of life, my GF would kill me if I did, so cars it is Each serves their purpose...family haulers, summer time toys, fast "work" truck, etc so we've got it all covered.

The "backup car" for us is my first car I ever bought and still have. My 2004 BMW e46 325Xi with a 5 Speed manual, winter package (yup heated seats baby) and a sunroof. I absolutely love that car and hope/plan to actually keep it forever if possible. To many times I hear people talk about their "first cars" and how cool they were and how they wish they still had them. I'd like to be the one who does still have it when I'm much older. 210,000miles on it and some more serious issues have come up with overheating but its in the shop now to be fixed, fingers crossed.
