Android Auto and Spotify

Probably discussed ad nauseum, but anybody know why Andorid Auto seems to want to continually take over from the Spotify App on iDrive. I prefer the iDrive version but after using it for a while it switches to Android Auto which is proper annoying

Has anybody else experienced this?

I’ve got the exact same issue and preference. I’ve played with the Android Auto settings, but so far no fix.

Which makes sense, if you’re connected to the android auto it wants to use its apps…

Agreed. If you want to use the iD version of Spotify you'd have to disconnect AA.

Once AA is active it takes over per design.

There's another recent thread regarding the iD Spotify with members calling out a bug regarding what I'll just call "favorites" aka library as I'm not a user of the service. Hopefully that has been fixed.

Same here, there's no changing it. The BMW Spotify app is better because the music sounds both louder and clearer than AA.

Likely due to a loss of signal strength via AA auto vs the full integration with iD7. Sort of like on a home stereo in which ones Blu-ray player maky have a louder default volume on the receiver's volume knob set to 40 vs a FireTV, etc.

At least in a home theater receiver you can trim each source input to match but no capability to do so in iD7. Plus, with AA the data is coming from your cell phones LTE/5G network which can get spotty (pun intended) while driving around. The built in AA auto uses the cars 5G AT&T data with external antenna. Likely way less to zero drop outs.

I “need” to keep Spotify on my phone for access to music while on a plane, biking and working out. So unfortunately not a good option.

bloozemanAZ Great call - in another thread - on using Amazon music. As much as I don’t want to give JB more of my money, the sound quality is definitely better with a lot of the music. Surprisingly I’m noticing the biggest different in my Raptor with the B&O tuned system vs the B&W in the M8. Admittedly I have played with it in the BMW and much as the Raptor (i.e., same song in Ultra HD in Amazon music vs Spotify, flipping back and forth). Great call, until Spotify releases their HiFi subscription, then I’ll go back primarily to Spotify since that is where all my playlists are built and the user interface is better (IMO).

I've managed to resolve it but not.sure how 🤔. Need to retrace what I did, it was a combination of settings on the Spotify App and AA. So far so good.

Reading through the long awaited HiFi option for Spotify that's been delayed apparently too many times to count it still won't match Amazon Music Ultra HD. Probably not a show stopper whatsoever but just a heads up the quality won't be the same.

For my Amazon Music Ultra HD when played in the car (when not on my SSD or SiriusXM) I have actually downloaded the albums to my Pixel 7 Pro (256 GB of storage so no issues) and stream direct vs over the air. Even sounds better!
