Exterior is nice, wider rear track is welcoming, not a fan for interior, many improvements needed for LCI. Shorter length than F12 6 series, would expect new 4 series to be same length as current F32 if not shorter. Good direction, really don't need to make each new generation bigger and longer.

You would have to be a dumbass to buy this car at $150k+. It isn't worth it. I'd be interested at 110k fully loaded, but it just isn't special enough to spend more than that. It has a 70k interior, if that.

It will be positioned above the 7 series and they go way past $110k fully optioned.
Looks nice, but without a special engine it’s not a real 8 series. Remember that V12? Maybe a modern day equivalent like a race inspired KERS system, but not an ordinary turbo V8. |

My colors would be either Sonic Speed Blue or CarbonBlack. Is the German configurator up? The red individual interior would 'pop' with either exterior color. The M8 will be taken up a notch, waiting for that release before my next ED decision in 2+ years.

Great exterior but the interior needs some upgrade.
Exterior : 1. The rear badging seem out of place, almost an afterthought. 2. Wish they carried over the 6 series camera hidden in the BMW logo. My issues with the interior : 1. Leather : There does not seem to be leather on the door pocket area, I am hoping full merino leather will cover it. For a car over $120K there needs to be full merino leather on visible surfaces. 2. Plastic buttons : Plastic buttons cannot exist at this price point. The door locks, window controls, steering wheel, HVAC controls .... The 7 has the painted metal buttons and they look great. No reason to skip on that detail for the 8 series. S class coupe interior is league's over this in the details. 3. If BMW wants to market this as 8 series rather than 6 series they need to make the interior look above and beyond the 7 series in terms of the quality. IMO it looks likes upgraded 5 series interior not an upgraded 7 series interior. 4. The screen needs to be edge to edge and looks cheap with the black ends showing. I loved my M6 GC and hoping the M8 GC will do some upgrade in the interior details. |

I was hoping for a modern interpretation of the original. There are some renders online which just look stunning. Long hood, narrow kidneys and headlights, pillarless windows....just like the original.
This is just a generic "big" BMW. |

I think your other points hold merit but this seems like it will straddle the line between full on luxury like the S-class and sports car like the 911. It's a mix of both. Sure if you want a true luxury interior there's the Merc, but it drives like a boat and not everybody wants that. Likewise, not everybody wants the sportiness of the 911 with it's cramped interior. BMW offers a nice compromise between both here. |
