March vs July software difference

What enhancements does the July update offer over the March 2020 version? And is this an OTA update or does it have to be done by the dealer?

This is on a 2019 M850i Convertible if that matters at all.

Thanks

This article pretty much covers everything in the 07/2020 release (although some doesn't apply to the 8-series, e.g., eDrive Zones).

https://www.press.bmwgroup.com/globa...es?language=en

Now here's the scary thing, i.e., they call it "beta days". WTF? However, the first 07/2020 release that hit a forum member was 07/2020.25 and the latest was 07/2020.40 so hopefully they are out of the beta program.

My coding chap came last week for my M850i, and installed 07.2020.48 but it didn't have Android Auto!

Trying with a new coder today to see if he can install it.

Interesting as originally there were reported issues with the 07/2020 update via OTA so they supposedly switched to dealer installs only. Apparently they have worked out the kinks but then again when it comes to OTA you can easily choose not to do the upgrade. There are some enhancements I'd like, e.g., BMW Assistant upgrades more so than Android Auto which I'll never use. Considering I've already had my exhaust neutered with 11/2019.70 (along with the assumption that was a one and done) I may give it a go. For those on older non-exhaust neutered releases I'd run to the hills unless you're dying for Android Auto or any of the other enhancements.

Had mine installed during service. Didn't notice any changes other than 3D view and camera view differences. I use carplay so no idea about android. And no I had to have the dealer do it.

New coder came today and I now have 07.2020.54 but no sign of Android Auto unfortunately. Looks like it isn't on the M850i yet (pre July 2020 builds).

Check under apps and bmw store. My mechanic says it's in all the 2019 M850i in the USA on the 07.2020 software; but he didn't say which dot versions.

There should definitely be Android Auto with the 07.2020 software even on 2019 builds. Mine is on the before-latest (07.2020.45). I wonder, of the listed stuff (in the article) what the latest one will really add (since some of it is already on with the July update).

Yep I know where I'd find it, and coudn't see it.

It seems to be in the US, but not in the UK yet on pre-July 2020 cars which is really frustrating.

I'm not sure if UK dealers are able to provide it, but when I spoke to my dealer last week, he said they hadn't put it on any 8 series yet.

If anyone here has it on their pre-2020 car, and has done it themselves, please let me know!

My 2019 M850i is a non-US one and has it (see screenshot below). I really find it strange you do not have it under the BMW apps menu. I for one got this with the 2020.07.45 update. Just before picking up the car back in September I asked the dealer to full flash car to latest software (all ECUs). You should definitely have it too if you are on one of the 2020.07.XX software versions. It would be very weird if on vehicles produced before 07.2020 and destined for the UK market the Android option did not show up. Also how (technically speaking) and why would BMW limit this for some models?

Are there any changes with the M-mode button? For example, did they restore the ability to put the HUD into M mode via the M1/M2 buttons? My expectation is that they'd allow us to program the desired M-mode into the M1/M2 buttons (implicitly giving me the desired HUD).

This was a regression and something both of my M5s could do.

Hi M,

I had it on my M850i when they did the update to 07/2020.25, the picture below was taken on 19th July.

I am sure you tried the reset, if not it may be worth a go.

Crap.

Will have to talk to the coding guy again and see what's going on.

I wonder of its something that only BMW can do.

Just realised you'd responded to my PM Azlar (apologies!). Is that image from your M850i, or M8? If the latter, that doesn't surprise me as the M8 seems to have Android Auto straight out the box.

Hi Limey,

I don't think there is any way to do it still unless you go into M mode, I tried all ways but with no luck, M1 and M2 still only have the 4 options.

So my version is even newer than the others at 07/2020.54 and no they did not fix the HUD option in the M button settings.

No worries Sir . It is from my M850i after the issues I had with the sensors and then the digital key. They updated to 07/2020.25 to try to resolve the problems, I got Android Auto and the auto windows thing( how useful is that, lol ).

Useful if you have a McDonald's addiction!

I'll have to see if I can get BMW to update the software somehow.

How frustrating!

That's what I though, or if you go through a toll booth each day.

Other than that I see no point for it.

They spent all that time and effort making your drivers window come down at a certain point ( saving you the 3 seconds to do it yourself ) but yet spent no time on the more important things like enhanced HUD information, digital key for IOS ( pre 07/2020 ), etc.

Android Auto unlike the iOS digital key is non-build date specific but rather the only requirement is iDrive 7. The M8s will only have Android Auto straight out of the box if built in July 2020 before the August 2021 cutover in which they no longer exist for the US.

Hey Bloozeman, how neutred is your exhaust? I'm on version 11/2019.50 and the only pops I hear is when revving in neutral also downshifting in sports plus between 2.5 and 3.5 rpm. If I'm gonna be neutred more than that I'm gonna forfeit the update.
