I mean if it wasn't hilariously overpriced, no doubt sales would be better.
It's too much, for not enough. |

My MB S550 coupes were ~$150k, yes they had more standard equipment and were pillarless but were not the 63 versions which are a better comp and aslo ~$170+. Granted they did not sell well either and are also being discontinued. With respect to price of vehicles being overpriced. As an example, look how much a new 911 costs today, simply way overpriced for what you get yet they sell lots and I think the M850/M8 offer far more value...go figure. The 911 is not a direct competitor, I'm just using it here as a value comp and nothing more.

Thanks. They make good points but these cars were in development and given the green light when it made more sense especially with falling oil prices helping t reinforce their decision. What they didn't factor for as much as they should have is the lux SUV craze pulling big lux GT buyers away and the 4 door "sports car" eating away at traditional 2 door versions as much as they have. I guess this is why the M8 GC is still for sale here.

That makes sense, i.e. they based the article on a BMW spokesperson confirming everything and its US market only. However, I've always considered C&D a bunch of fellow nerds to some degree and nerdism entails seemingly endless research (an aspect of me that drives my wife nuts). Case-in-point is that the official 2021 ordering/pricing guides for the US market has been published since June and although I'm not in the market for a new 8-series now I still scoured them looking for changes from 2020, etc. including the Competition package (ZCP) vs standalone model for the M8 GC. Just figured they would have as well but then again they have to publish articles to stay relevant so once again to your point the spokesperson angle gave them an excuse to do so.

It seems the verdict is unclear on whether this is just for one model year or permanently. I suppose it will depend on whether there is continued interest from current lessees. But given how much cash automakers have been hemorrhaging due to Covid they had to cut the fat somewhere.
This car is nice but not nice enough given it's price. It looks good but not $130k good, the interior is nice but no nicer than a loaded BMW X5, and I've read plenty sentiments about how it's just alright to drive.

It's amazing to drive and it's aesthetically very pleasing as far as I am concerned. We can debate over the interior no doubts about that. In this segment BMW should have "treated" it better for sure though certain color combos (ivory white, tartufo, fiona red, silverstone (M8)) can and do enhance the cabin looks. Sure it doesn't reach the goodies and luxury level of similarly priced cars or those of the competition offered in this segment.

"Remember that Porsche’s track-stomping 911 Turbo starts at $170,800. Mercedes’s AMG GT-C Coupe, which feels far more exotic and special, can be had for $150,900. Even the Lexus LC 500, with its dramatic presence, more-emotive V-8, and plush cruising manners is $50,000 cheaper. We say pocket the money and go for an 850i if you need to see that 8-Series silhouette when you open the garage door each morning. That car handles daily driver duties better and isn’t any less fun."However, in regards to the 992 911 Turbo starting at $170K doesn't mean you end up there at all... more like pushing $200K. Plus the M8C isn't trying to compete with it as they are completely different cars. Love the LC 500 and what they called out but its infotainment is abysmal to the point it makes the car a non-starter in my book. Plus, it is more in-line with the M850i from a competition standpoint. Lastly, have to agree in regards to the M850i as that is where I landed as it ticks all the boxes for my needs and is a fantastic daily driver. However, in all honesty if I didn't take possession of my 2nd 2020 M850i build last December pre-COVID19 I would most likely be driving a M8/M8C coupe now given the leasing deals to take advantage of. |

What does the AMG GT 63S have for interiors that the M8 Comp GC doesn't, for the $30K difference? |
