front clear windshield tint on 8 series?

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Anyone done a clear-ish tint on their front windshield? I had a ceramic 80% tint done on my X7 and F150 and it really cut down on heat and sunburn. The tint is so minimal that it doesn't impact light transmission and it looks stock from the outside (but still has the UV blocking benefits). The same shop was not certain I'd want it on the 8 series though as the front windshield is more angled, which can apparently cause more issues with glare/reflection. Anybody tinted their 8 series front windshield? Thanks.

Do it on all my cars. Just use a high quality film and installer, I have never had an issue and in the Florida sun it’s a must.

I did 50% on the windshield of my wifes M8, she had no idea it was done until she asked when i planned to do it weeks after it was done. Cuts down heat and glare and i have yet to have anyone ask me if the windshield is tinted

Thought about going 70% again on windshield. 50% does that even look like tint at all or really reduce glare? Hadn't thought of going that light.

50 would be darker than the 70...

duh, totally misspoke. Hadn't ever thought of doing 50% on a windshield, if anyone has pics of that on theirs. 70% is my max for a windshield, mainly for night driving purposes.

Definitely depends on the car and what you do elsewhere. My neighbor has 50% windshield along with 15% around the rest of his Wrangler Unlimited and I could hardly see his face when at an opposing stop sign. Do this on an 8 coupe, and you'll likely not even be able to see that there's a person in the car.

Hard to really tell from photos as the lighting and angle certainly play a role, but this F80 with 35% all around is dark and it doesn't seem quite as bad:

This G30 with 45% windshield and 20% around the rest in similar-ish lighting is close to my neighbor:

You're right, both look quite dark albeit that 45% on the G30, no way I could get away with that. I went with 30% all sides and 15% in the back. Thought it was too light at first but started to look quite dark the last couple days, probably the weather. Still on the fence with windshield. I do like the glare reduction but honestly M850 windshield to me doesn't seem to get as much glare as my previous car (G30).

I did the inside of all the windows of my car including the front one. On the windshield I went with lightest tint Expel makes. The others were done in the second lightest. I didn't want it too dark.
I then did a protective coating on the outside for stone chip and breakage damage protection. This is the product for that application.

So my windshield is thick now but all clear. I do notice some slight variance in the windshield from before application but to me it's worth it.
I really don't want to replace my windshield from the stock unit that came in my car.
I'm pleased with the results

I was thinking about doing 70% on my front window. The guy at the tint shop talked me out of it by saying that no tint job is perfect and you are going to be staring at this one all the time and might be annoyed by any imperfections you see over and over.

Go for only the best tint material. and the best installer. My guy did a perfect job. No issues.
I couldn't even tell mine was tinted once done. I opted for the lightest tint on the windshield. I didn't want it darker just needed it to reduce the heat and UV on the leather dash.
The outer protection for breakage did cause a very slight distortion but it barely noticeable. Worth it for the protection to me. I now can drive the highway less nervous of a rock nailing me.
The whole car is now PPF filmed and ceramic coated.
