Following the path of 6er production timeline, they really are the newest generation of 6 series with 8 series badge I think they totally used the whole 8er to boost the sales of previous 6 series line Stupid bmw

It is indeed an interesting marketing strategy, but as others have pointed out, BMW's entry level models still have more power than the entry level Porsche option.

BMW also lacks a second six cylinder option with more than 400hp like Mercedes and Audi have. However, on the flip side, those competitors do not offer a two-tiered V8 lineup. If you want a V8, you have to spring for the flagship 600hp+ model from AMG or Audi Sport.

Porsche has the most options with two V6 tiers and now three V8 tiers (BMW technically has three V8 tiers at their disposal too, but the lowest one is available for the X5 and X7 only).
Lots of interesting factoids

Thanks for the detailed explanation

More power than the base Porsche, however it seems to weigh nearly 700 lbs more!

Hopefully BMW will skip putting M badge on this over 5 meter car!
M is not just power, it's performance and agility too and I doubt this car can be a good representative of M-Car unless you just want to see the M badge on it and know you have +600 HP under hood ...

It looks quite good and I like the interior. But I still think there is something wrong with the rear. It's too busy, too rectangular, just not elegant enough (being elegant and sporty at the same time isn't impossible).

I find that very weird! When I seen $108,000 GC compared to $111,000 for the coupe I started to scratch my head. Thought it was a typo
Me too.... 6GC was about $3k more expensive than 6C....
Maybe some standard packages in 8C are optional in 8GC and must be paid for !!!!

This exhaust tail is ridiculous. Why??? The first thing that shouts from a 80-100k car.

What do you think the back seat WIDTH will be like? Same or less than the M5 / 5 series?
Thinking about 3 wide child seats...
This 8 says 54.6 and the M5 is 55.9.
But with kid seats what matters is the distance between the outer latch points.

Not attempting TK take away the achievement of the 8, i love It and want one.

But BMW has made extra effort lately to make the 0-60 times really good because they have so much marketing value now.

The old e60 M5 has similar 0-60 times as this but I don't think an 840i would actually be competitive on a track with it once the torque isn't as useful and the power and suspension starts to be more important

There is an M8 GC coming out just like there was an M6 GC. The M5 is a sedan and wears the ///M badge so BMW is no stranger to ///M Sedans that aren't small. Even the current ///M3 is quite large relatively speaking. If you've ever driven an M5, M3, M6 GC etc then you would know they handle very well for all being sedans. I've only drive then M3/5, never the 6, but BMW knows how to make SUV's feel like sedans and sedans feel like coupes.
