Exclusive Whiskey and the 8 Series

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
About 60 days after the delivery of my 8 series last July, I received an email from BMW indicating that as a 'special' 8 owner I would be receiving a special hand crafted bottle of whiskey from Sullivan's Cove.

Another 30 days and a further email this time a video explaining how it would not be any bottle of whiskey, but a uniquely created bottle of whiskey just for 8 series owners.

Who is Sullivan's Cove you ask? Well:

In 2019, Sullivans Cove French Oak Single Cask was awarded “World’s Best Single Cask Single Malt” at the World Whiskies Awards. This followed winning the same award for their American Oak Single Cask in 2018, making Sullivans Cove the only distillery in the world to ever win the award twice. In 2014, Sullivans Cove French Oak was also named “World’s Best Single Malt” at the World Whiskies Awards, and is still the only Australian whisky ever to win World’s Best.

After another 30 days a very large box arrived with some elaborate packaging and inside was a "specially designed whiskey bottle holder which captures "the spirit of the 8 series".

After another 30 days, another large box arrived with a box inside which was the "8 Sullivans Cove Sensory Sample Kit" where you can smell the flavour profiles of the Nose, the Palate and the Finish. There are strips of absorbent paper which you can use to smell or apply as an aftershave.

And last week (another 30 days) I received a letter saying my whiskey had been shipped and it included a video with more information including the sources for the blend. My whiskey has not yet arrived.

My thoughts. I'm not a big whiskey drinker, but I don't mind one and will definitely try this with a friend of mine who is a whiskey nut. A Sullivans Cove whiskey is pretty special and its a nice touch from BMW. However its not what I really wanted.

What I really wanted is dealership pickup and drop off when my car needs a service. Very simple and easy. Practical. And probably a lot cheaper for BMW given the cost of creating a bottle of whiskey. The bottle holder alone would not have been cheap.

Of course the Sullivans Cove whiskey is all about making me feel unique and special like the 8 series.

Feelings, thoughts my fellow 8 owners?

That my friend is what $300K gets you down under as I do not believe that benefit for 8-series owners exists here in the US. Then again considering my dealer put up with an absolute shit show thanks to my failed builds perhaps my CA kept the whiskey to himself (and well deserved).

Yes mate. Doing a bi-directional service pick up and drop off of 4km each way would not have made the list of marketing “prestigiousness” for the $300K blue blur.

Good for you, man! WOW.

Here in the States, our gift--that never stops giving--is the unending emails we get from every other dealer we didn't buy the car from... I prefer yours.

FFS, BMW!!

New rule for 8-series sales in the US being a complimentary bottle of Pappy Van Winkle 15-year old bourbon as part of the deal!

That is $3,450 a bottle here. If that’s what you’re drinking I’m coming to your place!

I've been collecting for years so have a couple of 12 year, one 15 and two 20s. All set for special occasions and the absolute fun involved as I will first ask for those partaking to smell it. Frankly it smells like gasoline (long live ICE and our M850is). Then I ask how does it taste? In contrast to the smell it is a no questions asked smoothest tasting 90 proof plus (depends on the year) bourbon on the face of the planet.

Too funny as I recently commented to the wife that although hand sanitizer and toilet paper are none existent there is a bevy of booze to be purchased. That leads me to my forum name, i.e., BloozemanAZ which in general is just Bloozeman but that userid was taken (but not active whatsoever).

The nickname stems from the late 80s early 90s in which I was a professional musician regardless of my IT day job. Blooze is a conglomeration of booze and blues and I had a sweet pre-CBS Fender Stratocaster totally customized that I nicknamed Blooze. My fellow band mates at the time took it one step further and referred to me as the Blooze man and hence the name was born. All great memories and although I no longer professionally play Bloozeman is the username I utilize on all Internet forums.

I'd still rather spend $100k on an E31 850 CSi, or $300k on an E31 Alpina B12 5.7 Coupe.

If the BMW wine I got with my M2 is anything to go by, they should definitely just stick to cars!

Exclusive Something

Here in Thailand they have what they call the "BMW Excellence Club". Buying a 7 (or X7) as I have gives you the option to enrol. I assume the 8 will get it as well. My invitation arrived in a huge box which turned out to contain 2 Jim Thompson (if you've been to thailand you'll know what I'm talking about) silk black and bronze cushions. Must be worth a couple of hundred bucks. On top of that you get to choose a package such as business or sport which contains various themed offers. E,g,, 10 round trip airport transfers in 7 series, hotel accommodation for a couple of nights, $350 dining vouchers, a years membership to a sports club etc. I was actually quite stunned.

https://www.bmw.co.th/en/topics/offe...ence-club.html

Honestly though, pick up and drop off for service and a courtesy car would have been perfect for me too!

saying that - I'll take whatever I can get!

khai Dow maybe when COVID comes to an end, I can fly up to BKK, use one of your vouchers to travel in from the airport, chip in your free accommodation gig and meet you at the restaurant with the $350 credit and I'll bring my bottle of whiskey!

Everyone has their personal choices but in this case the thread at hand, i.e., Ozzie's M850i absolutely blows both out the door from the performance, luxury and technology points of view. Of course if you're a true car collector that mileage may vary but most of us on the forum are just living the dream today vs collecting cars as in that world you can't really drive them or oops there goes the value.
