To remove that trim, does the diffuser need to come out? Yes, the CF diffuser (or stock diffuser) has to be removed in order to remove the trim rings. The diffuser snaps in there. Once removed you can access the screws for the trim ring

Doesn't sound like any bumper/diffuser parts need to be removed off the car to make this happen correct? You need to remove the splash panel under the bumper in order to cut off /weld the pipe.

Someone above mentioned 'the space is too narrow and bumps and stuff would make it hit the diffuser and crack it', etc., is that an issue at all? I had rub with 103mm / 4 inch tips. 3.5 tips allow you to have a good 3/8 inch of gap from the diffuser both top and bottom, no rub at all

Here's a photo. I overexposed it so you can get a good idea of gap from tips to diffuser.

[QUOTE=fmzip;29921711]You have to remove the trim rings on the factory diffuser in order for the tips to pass through. With the trim on, tips will not fit. 3.5 inch tips will fit with both the CF diffuser and or the factory diffuser provided you remove the trim rings

You also need to cut the old tips off and weld in new piping

That makes sense now, thank you!

Thanks so much for that info. That makes sense.

While still somewhat straightforward there is a little complication insofar as removing the splash bottom and then carbon diffuser to get the tips off.

Not that it is hard or anything but my shop aren't skilled when it comes to tinkering with body parts, haha and I am not sure if I want to trust them with it.

If you're handy, it's really simple to DIY. Personally, I would remove the CF diffuser myself as it's an expensive piece to replace

I will need to watch some diy videos on removing that carbon fibre diffuser trim. That’s the only way I learn , I am not super handy but if it’s not overly complicated then I should be able to do it.

Replaced the Netami black chrome tips with some 3.5 matte carbon fiber tips suggested by fmzip . Looks less like looking up someones nose imo . Had them recessed a bit more so they sit more flush with the diffuser. Like the look a lot better.

Previous tips were a 4 and definitely noticeable going down a size. Of course have to preface excuse the poor quality Iphone rain pics. Had to have the shop do it since the welded on the last set.

Thanks I appreciate that. Will take you up on this when I do ultimately decide to do it. So far I am enjoying the vehicle in its stock form.

I'd avoid the Fi one, unless you're looking for that one and know the issues with Fi vs ACS or 3D.

See attached.
I’ve got a whole thread on here looking for ideas - this is EXACTLY what I’m looking for! Any chance of a DM with some contacts etc? I’m in the UK but more than happy to pay to have this shipped to get the right thing. That look is perfect - and we have the same colour too! 🥰

Anyone who had this done mind sharing what you paid in labor costs? Having a shop look at it Thursday to give me an estimate and wanted to have something to compare it to

I love what you did with your car, I was wondering if it was possible to swap just the diffuser for the M8 diffuser? Or did you have to swap the bumper to swap the diffuser?

Hey did you ever follow through with this? Im looking into this on my M850i, I also have the CF package and was hoping it would be as easy as you guys previously discussed.

What do you mean by this? Even if one did a resonator delete it wouldn't affect warranty?

I said it would not void your warranty if you replaced the muffler with something else. Is that incorrect?

Call BMW and ask them if you remove the resonator would it impede your warranty coverage................

That's beyond cosmetic appearance mods or replacement. I would guess they tell you warranty is void on exhaust related issues since you removed a piece of it. Granted I don't agree but they'd find a way to decline a claim if they can
