I think bmw design was excellent from 335i to m3 as the m3 is much more aggresive, better looking in everyway. Audi just seem to do the exact oposite. It appeared they ran out of idea on how to improve on the s5 and tried too hard to to make the rs5 aggresive.
+1. It is just what I think. But the RS6 looks better than S6. Same for the old S4 and RS4, the RS4 is much better, and I have to say, even if the RS5 is overall much better than the RS4, the RS4 looks just more agressive and exciting. I am not an Audi fan, but for me the RS4 is the most desireable Audi. R8 and Q7 are just very cool and stylish.

I have to agree that the early examples with the Aluminimum style pack don't show off it as well as it could look.

Without this style pack I rate it much better and gels better.

I was at Genova and saw both the M3 and RS5 live. For me the M3 looked still more special compred to 3 Series than is the RS5 compared to A5. But in fact they both did not look very good. The M3 was Laguna Seca Blue, and the CF spliters and spoiler just did not match well. Same was for the RS5, I really did not like the rosy-red color, and the aluminium lip, mirrors and all that, just did not make it any good. I think both the M3 and RS5 did not look nice because of the lighting and the reflection. They should be compared outside on a sunny day.

I truly loved the look of my M3 in SS with the gun metal 18" alloys, this combination to me is when the M3 looks it's meanest. As for the RS5, wait till you see it in the fresh and in Daytona grey with the Black optics pack, that is THE combination in my eyes. Especially with the silver leather seats.

Footie, can you elaborate on what a "Black optics" package is?

I expect it to be a blacking out of the interior headlamp cluster, but is there anything else to it?

Let's hope it is sooner. What the heck is the point of releasing a car over 3 years after the M3 as an "answer". That is just nonsensical. If the European market gets it this fall, why can't we get it this fall or early spring of 2011?

We need to get away from this idea that the RS5 is wait to the party, the simple truth is that Audi are in a different production cycle to that of BMW. You could as easily agrue that the RS4 was out before the M3 and BMW were equally late with their offering.

As for why the US will be so late to receive it compared to the rest of Europe?

I honestly couldn't give you an answer, I would imagine that because the decision to go ahead with the US market was taken so close to production that it takes time to ramp up production to fit it in. At least the good that it is coming at all.

But at that point BMW will have started marketing the new M3 via "spy shots" and whatnot.

The 3 series coupe should be due for a whole new body soon, since the first year of production was Fall 2005 wasn't it?

No. Before the new 3 Series Coupé (F32), we shall yet have next year, in 2011, but called MY 2012, the M3 Clubsport package, with maybe, engine upgrade, brakes upgrade, exhaust upgrade, and maybe even some other M3 GTS parts.

The grill is also black with the Black Optics which isn't the case with BMW's Shadowline.

I seriously question if the M3 will ever receive the GTS engine parts.

You can get "Shodow-Line"/"Gloss Black" grills for BMW 1 Series (E8x), 3 Series (E9x), 5 Series (F1x), 7 Series (F0x), X5/X6 (E7x) at BMW Accessories. It will be an option on the new BMW "M1".

Time will tell if BMW M shall yet modify there M3 (E9x) or just build the new M3 (F3x). Whatever, it is not good to wait. Just take the best of at the moment, and now it might be the RS5, if you have the money.

Something like that, it essentially removes the aluminum parts and replaces them with gloss black. Perfect example is the TTRS. If you were to build one with one of the european audi websites, you'll see exactly which parts gets "shadowline" treatment.

I'm not saying that it wasn't possible to spec that way, only that it's a standardised package on the Audi that changes the grill to black but with the BMW you need to pick it from the Accessory category.

Again I'm not saying it isn't possible, only that I doubt it will happen.

I just can't justify waiting a year and a half for a car that will beat the M3 by a smidge but has AWD. I was only waiting for the RS5 this year because this was the year I get my car.

I will not wait any longer, and the M3 will have to suffice if the case is that the RS5 is due out here in Fall 011
