Kind of falls in the category of buying shit you don't need, with money you don't have, to impress people you don't like.

Its funny to see the e9x described as 'analog' the early complaints were that it felt over assisted compared to previous generations. Its telling how far BMW has fallen from its roots.

The GM alpha platform is very good, and as others have said you slam the door and it feels solid.

CUE is...not good, in fact I think the system in my silly ZL1 is better (we have an Escalade as the family truckster). But the early versions of iDrive were hated too.

Caddy has been making good products for about 1 and a half generations now, (the Current CTS-V, the previous generation was a step in the right direction), in another generation they will start getting the respect they deserve.

Consider Audi during the 80s, they were laughed at and look at them now.

I'd say it's not just very good, it's excellent (not just because I own one now). Multiple resources have said the ATS-V is the best handling sports sedan in the world and it's been pushed to insane levels with the ZL1-1LE, running down GT3s on the track. Big shoes to fill, but GM figured out how to make cars handle 10 years ago and they haven't looked back. Hard to match I-drive IMO, but the interiors in general are good IMO, but lots of bias still persists...

Cadillac has come a long way I am definitely a fan of the V
the engines are ok but running at high high boost
the dynamics are excellent.. its a race car
overall as it stands I would still take the M3 overall
but all eyes on the nextgen model battle because the nextgen M3 also looks tantalizing as well
add in an excellent competitor in the quadrifoglio
and it just benefits us drivers with all these great driving choices

I have personally owned a ATS-V, and I can tell you that the new Cadillac platform is the best driving dynamics and suspension I have ever owned. That being said, I hated the GM 8 speed trans, and I prefer the BMW interior. I owned a loaded F30 at the same time with a lot of mods done to it. What GM Aja’s going for it right now is their chassis setups, and their magnetic ride. The engine in the ATS-V never felt that fast to me, but I honestly think it was due to how good the suspension and chassis are. The motor isn’t very sexy, and doesn’t make the best noises, and paired with the GM 8 speed it never felt special. I do think many of ou would be blown away at how fast and how well one of these car handles on a track.

BMW have been doing double wishbone for F-platform 5/7/X5 etc. Nothing special, it takes a little bit more than that.

Handling is good, engines may be impressive but their "art and science" design language has been hideous since day one, the ATS V coupe looking like something the CEOs 14 year old son drew on a folder during math class.

Sorry was really referring to the 3 series
the chassis will be stiffen up a bit in the next iteration but a single wishbone just isnt as tight as double wishbone

That is probably not going to happen, dreaming buddy.

Regardless if the new Caddy's are better handling and driving wise, Cadillac has 1 huge problem, it's still a Cadillac. The brand still has that old, grandfather image about it and it won't go away anytime soon. I have seen so many reviewers say great things regarding the ATS-V when it first released, singing it's praises yet... 2-3 years later there are hardly any of them on the road. 2016 - 2017 ATS-V can be found w/ around 5k miles for 45k give or take or even less. No one speaks about them now, the Caddy interior is just full of cheap materials that belong in a base Civic it's depressing.

Cadillac will continue to have sale problems until they fix their image issue. No airdrop kids will buy a Cadillac when they have the money for Benz, BMW, Audi, Porsche, Bentley etc.

Please keep that meme alive. I *love* seeing used V-lacs on the market for next to nothing. Makes my wallet smile.

Cadillac sales were up 15.5% last year. The 2nd largest amount of total sales in the brand’s history.

http://media.cadillac.com/media/us/e...lac-sales.html

In the US in 2017, the Cadillac XT5 outsold every Benz, BMW, Audi, Porsche or Bentley model, except for the Mercedes C-Class. Cadillac SUVs sell quite well. The XT4 gets revealed next month and will probably sell extremely well too.

Cadillac CARS aren’t selling well (in the US), but the same can be said for most brands.

On a personal note, my wife likes the XT5 and F Pace but sees both brands as too geriatric. It's gonna take a long time for either to fix that.

Yay for Trump quote! Not.

I don't know why I bothered to actually find all the numbers but hey... whatever.

http://gmauthority.com/blog/gm/cadil...sales-numbers/

156,440 car total sales for Cadillac in 2017 for the US. Cadillac sold 356,457 worldwide. Which is backed up by that link you posted above.

http://gmauthority.com/blog/gm/cadil...sales-numbers/

68,312 for the Caddy XT5 in 2017 total for US. First month of January 2018, 3,989 total XT5 sold in US.

Just for the hell of it, I looked at the Cadillac ATS which had a total sale figure of 13,100 for 2017. The larger Cadillac CTS sold 10,344 for 2017.

As reported by the thread below and by the downloadable PDF from BMW Press Website
http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1453830

https://www.press.bmwgroup.com/usa/a...language=en_US

https://www.press.bmwgroup.com/globa...motive-company

X3 in January 2018 sold 2,954 total in NA. The year of 2017, X3 sold 40,691.
X5 in January 2018 sold 3,230. The year for 2017 for the X5 sold 50,815.
BMW 3 series for 2017 sold 59,449. (Which is down a LOT from 2016 still)
BMW 4 series for 2017 was 39,634.
BMW 5 series for 2017 sold 40,658. (Which is up from 2016)

BMW of North America year end for 2017 sold 352,790. BMW itself, worldwide sold 2,088,283 (Not including Mini and Rolls-Royce). BMW M on it's own (sorta?!) sold 80,795. Year wise, it was an increase for BMW as well.

So yes, the XT5 did sell better compared to the Macan, X3 and Q5. However, the % that GM put up is deceptive because of how much they totally sold. Asking for a 10% sale increase for a year for BMW whom sold more then 2 million on it's own, means they will have to sell way more compared to the 15% increase stated by Cadillac. 4% increase for BMW is not as much as the Benz total being at 2.3 million from what I found which was a 10% (or close to it) increase from their 2016 numbers. Benz's is more impressive considering the amount of increase sales they got. BMW being 2nd, still got more sales but got out paced by Benz for 2nd year in a row.

SUV and Crossovers are the thing. It isn't too hard to see this considering every manufacturer is trying to get one, apparently even Ferrari because they fell behind Lamborghini.

Looks like the Cadillac is in the game now. This is a CT5 (a D-class car), which will fight against the 3-series, A4, C-class.

Caddy's new president knows what to do. Lots of fake parts here, but to me it already looks much more intresting than the Bimmer. I’m sure it will be the best car in class, inside and out.

Bye-bye 3 series. Ciao C-class.
Put it on your calendar to repost this prediction in 5 years. Along with your repost, spend a minute and brag about how accurate you were and how you predicted the demise of the 3er and the c-class.

BTW, historically, nothing ensures the demise of a new sedan more than referring to it as a 3 series killer. This new Cad may be a great car, but I'm pretty certain BMW is pretty safe. That said, I do love healthy competition. It makes for better cars all around.

My last F-series loaner car reminded me of my father's old Buick in size and driving dynamics.

Funny, I was a fan of BMW when the Roundel wasn't a status symbol. In fact, I had to explain to others why I chose the quirky, unknown German car. The sad irony is I would be embarrassed driving a current Bimmer, not the Cadillac. If we include high-performance on track, it isn't close.

Case closed.
Beautiful synopsis.

Thank you.

And go price a used last-gen CTS-V Wagon with a manual trans...
