You could probably compare them in terms of performance, gas mileage, etc., but really they're distant cousins. The X3 is sadly outdated in its style, technology, etc., while the Q5 is as modern as it gets. It seriously is like a cockpit inside.

Anyway back to the Q5, I really like the looks especially the S-Line which offers a sportier image that suits the car. It's driving position isn't usual SUV, it's sort of in between a traditional SUV and a normal car which gives the drive a more sporty feel for the car and how it drives when pushed. And about it's handling, well here is an SUV that definitely feels more tied down than either the Brother's X6 or my Cayenne S from memory, it corners remarkably level with less understeer for what is still an SUV, the engine is punchy being the 3.0TDI and I would reckon though couldn't say for certain that it did feel like it would have the legs on the Brother's X6 35d (a car not short on performance).

I can only imagine what an RS version of this will be like and it would be the only real choice to use as the Q7 is really too big to be classed as sporty or offer anything like a sporty driving experience. I hope the X5/6M pushs Audi to take the decision and offer an equivalent because I can't think of an SUV better design and executed for the purpose of offering a fire-spitting version.

I totally agree with you on the GLK. I feel sorry for every misguided soul who buys one.

and how are the angel eyes "not recogniseable"? I admit that a lot of manufacturers + some after market units have appeared on factory and riced out cars, but remember, BMW started this fad with the redesigned e39 5 series, the angel eyes and the lighting rods. So anything after by another manufacturer, can be construed as imitation being the sincerest form of flattery. Now if only the other manufcturers made cars as fun to drive.....

I actually like the GLK.. in fact it looks like a proper truck, not like some jelly blobby mass that every other SUV is trying to look like.... An SUV should look butch, and the GLK carries on that design theme from the Gandelwagen which along with the Range Rovers are the most handsome (note I did not use beautiful) SUVs on the planet.

Considering that our sexual orientation is judged based on what we drive, blobby SUVs just scream out 'I am batting for the other side'.... just my 2 cents worth

the only problemw ith the above is that in North America we get the watered down version of the GLK -- I believe the rest of the world can get a full off road kit (low gear and all). I wonder if the GLK is the successor to the G-wag.. even though it has a car chassis

not a successor... the GLK costs 30-40K, the G wagon > 100K
