I've owned M cars for the last 15 years now and my current one is a 2014 M6 Comp pack.
Now when I see Ford doing a supercharger instead of a turbo, keeping it RWD, and finally adding a proper DCT, I can't help but think that's all that I can ask for. I would get the GT500 over the M8C no question about it. BMW M is now going AWD and has even ditched the double clutch for an automatic. Seems like they are turning into a Merc now. Not sure I like the way BMW is heading with the M cars.

All I saw was the GT500 was a ton faster except on the launch. The M8 and M8C have very little chance to beat the new GT500 on track. There is no shame in it, it's just a much more focused car. They shouldn't even be compared really.

Nothing short of an M8 CSL with nearly 700hp is going to tame that pony.
IMHO the biggest compromise with the 8 series is that they're using the 8er trio to go against the S coupe/cabrio, SL, GT, GT4dr and CLS with just one model making it a jack of all trades rather than the king of one. Fantastic car nevertheless, but that explains the lack of focus as someone mentioned above. Last edited by scoobysaurus; 01-28-2020 at 05:57 AM.. |

Ford is using a 5.2L V8 engine in the GT500 and BMW is using their 4.4L V8 in the M8. Neither are "large displacement" engines. Heck, even the Hellcat is "only" using a 6.2L engine which is somewhat large by today's standards as compared to others.

Was there any doubt that a 760hp RWD car will be faster 617hp AWD?
BMW's AWD is the only thing that made things somewhat equal in the quarter but after that the RWD will have it. Personally I didn't get the M8 to drag race but have a wicked fast, yet comfortable and safe ride. Just came back from a Cali trip where they stuck us into a 2020 Ford GT since they oversold their rentals. Obviously different cars but that thing was crap. Actually there is a lot of tech in the car but the driving experience was lackluster, from the 10 speed down to the seats. This thing was downright painful on longer rides... Assuming it had some driving assistant packages as most $30K cars these days seem to include at least blind spot detection. Was the 2020 SYNC system decent or getting on par with iDrive? Last Ford rental car I had in early 2019 was a Edge with Titanium package. Definitely improvement in interior but the SYNC system left a lot to be desired.

Not as polished and not as intuitive but then I didn't use it much. I was more referring to the different drive modes/digital dash, etc. |

Thanks saw the digital dash in the GT500 pre-release marketing, etc. but didn't know if it was exclusive to it and had no clue it was part of the base models (or possibly an option).

I am not sure if you can directly compare these cars. In the BMW world, GT500 would be an M4 on steroids. M8 is for speed, comfort, and style, not pure speed.
Now, with some easy mods (firmware) M8 will be able to beat GT500, but then you can tune up GT500 as well etc... |
