Question Brake Dust Solutions?

The brake dust my M850 produces is pretty extreme, are there ceramic pads available? I hear Armor All outlast bd repellent works but leaves a film on black gloss. I never let the bd build up beyond a few days but even after two drives it's pretty thick (maybe worse than my MB's). Waxing the wheels does nothing to help, maybe even worse. Any other solutions?

Acg makes carbon kevlar pads which suppose to help a lot. Really big on the m5 forums.

The brake dust is out of control

the single biggest reason I ordered the CCBs. The next was the huge unsprung weight reduction. Absolutely do not miss that. Amazing how I never see any brake dust on my wheels.

Thanks gents, the wheels on our Audi Q7 had almost 0 brake dust after weeks of driving and the brakes on Lexus LC500's were changed by Lexus due to many complaints of squeal and excessive dust, so far they appear to have done the trick for many.

With regard to the kevlar carbon pads mentioned, are they hard on the rotors, do they produce noise and will they negate the warranty of the rotors by BMW?

forgot to mention I did those ceramic pads on my M6 several years ago and it did reduce the dust by 50% but it also lost about 10-20% of the braking force in the process. something to consider. And they were not cheap, around $600 for the front/rear.

Thanks for this. The braking force/feel on the M850 is weird to begin with b/c its by wire, so maybe it won't be such an issue. Some questions: Did you get any squealing or rotor issues (warping/vibrations etc)with the new pads, and do both front and rears need to be done (my fronts get far dirtier than the rears). Does installing aftermarket pads affect the warranty of the rotors, and what brand did you use?

I'm with you on this. Had them on my F10 M5 and my current Cayenne Turbo. Quiet and clean. Didn't have them on my F85 X5M - hated the noise and dust every day.

Is it a crazy pricey solution? Yes. But I don't the the option of cleaning them myself or setting up a system to pay someone so it was worth it to me. Plus my wife is on board and they look awesome.

Had to look it up on the M6 forum. Carbotech. You can read the post if you search my name and M6.

Thanks, went to their site, don't see a version for the M850XI's, hopefully they will add it soon.

I am sure they will, you should call them. If I recall mine were not on the list but they had them. The brakes on the M850i are shared I think with other models.

I would need to know if BMW warranty will exclude rotors if non-stock pads are used before i'd even consider ordering.

I had no issues with the warranty and my dealership did the install. Make friends with your SA and nothing to worry about. Plus I doubt that as pads are wear and tear items like saying you switched tires and it voided your warranty on the hubs.

If I can get the dealer to install that would be perfect. I've heard that composite pads can be hard on the rotors.

No issue with mine other than a bit of brake force loss especially on initial bite.
