So, starts at $113k, and fully loaded is $140k. Presumably that's where the M8 is going to start, then, since M's tend to start where the models under them end. That'd make it a nice bargain compared to the Mercedes S63 Coupe, though costlier than the AMG GT4.

What is the M Technology Package, I wonder. Cannot be much based on the whole package cost.

Did anyone else notice how many standard features are on this car? All of what I optioned on my 540i is standard on this car. That's crazy.

I'm still waiting on the M8GC though

The thing that amazes me is that they bother making such cars... I think it's great that they do, but I'm surprised by it. How many can they hope to sell? Very few thousand worldwide per year? It's fascinating that modern manufacturing makes it possible for this endeavor to be profitable at such low volume and without large margins.

Ehh the margins are huge on high end cars, I wouldn't be surprised if they make $20k per car and the R&D and platform are all shared among other models.

Well seems like EU invoice would be $99,000 and with a few options that I want (ZD8, 40C and 4A2), it would be $105,000 for ED. I do see a lot of std items incl laser light. I'm in.

How much was the old 650i??

Still think the last generation 6er was sooooo much better looking and proportioned than this. More timeless. This isn't very BMW looking to me...

A 650i XDrive Gran Coupe, that's a premium over a 650i coupe, starts a $96,000. The BMW 6 Series 650i xDrive Coupe started at $86,000. So this 850i at $112,000 is starting at a $26,000 premium over the previous 650i for having an 8 instead of a 6. That's ludicrous.

At $112k starting and a possible $120k-$130k well-optioned, there are way too many options at that range that I'll start to consider.

I wouldn't even consider any of the other options at this price range. I think 8 series is stunningly cheap for what it is. Cheaper than S class coupe, cheaper than any other car in its class, but it's better equipped, lighter and faster as well; and it probably drives better.
6 series was 5 series coupe, this is 7 series in coupe form. This is not 650i.

I'm sorry, I must have missed the part where the 8-Series was literally just a previous generation 6-Series with a higher number slapped on. You know, since nothing on the car is the same as before, and they don't look the same. By that logic, a 6-Series had no business being so much more than a 4-Series.

Anyway, the majority of 650xi's were in the $100-110k range once you stuck some options on them, and there were/are plenty of cars to consider at that price, as well. Plus, while the M850 starts in that same price rance, it also includes as standard a bunch of things that were extra on the 6-Series (M Sport, 20" wheels, Active Roll Stabilization, etc.) or not available at all (laser lights, extra power, rear wheel steering, etc.). A base M850 is more car than a loaded (or even typically equipped) 650 was, for the same money.

So if you don't like it, don't get one. Personally I think it looks like an Aston Martin, only with better performance and better tech, for less money. And it's a bargain compared to the competition at Benz. I'd take one in a heartbeat.
